| | | Scottish Malt maniac
Hi
My names Gill and I have lived in Winterthur for the last seven years with my husband Malcolm and my four kids Andrew, Rachel, Callum and Thomas. I only discovered this site whilst GOOGLING for haggis but I am glad of the oppurtunity to chat with other fellow english speakers. We are originally from Scotland and have a Malt Whisky business (run from home) supplying the least heard of ( but very good) Scottish Malts. If you would like further details my email is on my profile - we do private tasting sessions at home or can come to you place for a Birthday or special celebration. There is a small charge to cover costs of tasting depending on the number of people there. We also home deliver , gift wrapping free of charge in the zurich area- so its not too late for Christmas. Anyway enough shoptalk or blethering as we say in Scotland, I hope to meet lots of new people through this site I am always up for chat as you see!

Welcome
I'm a big fan of my single malts - when you say "least heard of", would you be able to lay your hands on any Muir of Ord, Old Pulteney or Glenisla?
I can find plenty of Oban and Talisker round these parts but not seen any of the above in Switzerland so far (mind you I never saw much Old Pulteney anywhere outside of my Dad's kitchen in all honesty )

well another fan here and a very proud one at that, just got a port ellen ( a rarity which insiders will know )
This is a friend of my hubby who changed the simple mineralwater and wine shop he inherited to a real haven for whisky lovers http://www.whiskytime.ch/frame.htm
and yup he stocks old puteney although I have to ask hubby if he speaks english and how well in any case Martin Monnier is his name should you want to enquire via phone but they've also got an online shop in which you can pay with your credit card.

just some info. Glenisla is an SMU whisky. You will find "Glenisla" whisky produced under the name Strathmill and I am fairly sure you will find that here under the flora and forna editions produced by Diageo... www.malts.com
I checked I was wrong it is not imported into Switzerland...
Old Pulteney you can get from www.malthouse.ch
Muir of Ord is an SMU of Glen Ord isn't it. I have only ever seen it once at heathrow airport - it was the old name of Glen Ord but that was in the Dewer's time...

Yes Muir of Ord is very tough to find, we used to have family holidays in Strathconan which is basically the next valley along from Glen Ord, and without fail every time we would go and do the tour of the distillery - I learned about good whisky aged 8 (and 9, and 10, and 11, and...)
My dad has a few bottles of it and I've seen it in some places, but not many...

The distillery has been closed for 25 years and the stills have been removed. As such its like will not be reproduced in our lifetime... Also when I was last in Islay at the DFW they had only 100 barrels "or so" of Port Ellen left and the going rate is now pushing toward £300 per bottle!!! It will not come down...

We don't try to compete with other shops in Zurich by selling 100's of malts but stick to a few distilleries at a time that are independent and not tied to large international companies. Also so I can keep up with whats what , its a tricky business.

Unfortunately it's not an entire bottle as such but one of a set of special islay malts of the 6th bottling release it says and it contains only 200ml needless to add i will probaly not open it anyway and instead enjoy a Caol Ila or so but just to know that it have a teensy weensy dram of it is enough to make me happy!

It is fairly unique in its production methods and is the smallest distillery in Scotland. As for Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich we still need to wait 3+ years to get hold of some. All the whisky currently available is "old stock" pre new start-up. But I will be excited if and when you get some of the new stock and I think you will be able to tempt me with Glenglassaugh and PortEllen if they are distillery bottlings...
