Hi amateur comedian moved to Basel Aesch from London

Hi,
me, the wife, and the little gremlin have just moved to Basel from London.
The wife works in Novartis main campus, and I'm still working in London(couple of days a week) for Sky (the evil Empire) as Linux Build Engineer.
I run a small club in west london
its basically there for me to have some fun learning to MC and somewhere I don't have to drive for 5hrs to do a 10mins spot at.

I'm looking to do the same in Basel/Zurich - its basically a Free Comedy club where people can try new stuff and just have fun.
I can't do this by myself and so am looking for budding comedians/Creative writers/anybody else who want to get together write stuff and perform it.

looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi there, welcome to CH and EF.
Plenty of "comedians" on EF, but none of them are funny .

I realised I was headed for comedy stardom when I once made a beggar laugh by giving him a 5 pence, he didn't laugh the 2nd time though, so could have been just luck.

would also be good if anybody wants to meetup in some pub, and over a beer or two, do some creative writing, throw some jokes around and have a laugh.

Comedy in Switzerland? Good luck!

Comedy here is more of the Mr Bean school of humour; wear funny clothes & fall over a few times & they will love you.

Ah, steady now. See an International Comedy Club show and you'd be surprised by the number of Swiss punters enjoying unfettered comedy talent.

International is the give away word, my experience is more limited to local events like this.

Point of order. Apple is the evil empire nowadays.

If you're expecting to perform in front of the natives, be warned, many don't get/appreciate satire and sarcasm.

As mentioned Mr Bean is a favourite, as used to be Benny Hill.

Religiously, every New Years Eve, they have been watching this, for a generation,at least (if you've never seen it). It'll give you a good idea what turns them on (comedy wise):

Re: Hi amateur comedian moved to Basel Aesch from London

The Laundry Man brings English speaking comedy to us here, but he has avoided Bern lately, probably as the numbers attending were small.

I complained to him verbally that though some of the comedians had been on national TV, their acts here were mainly full of obscenities.

I didn't find it at all funny when a lady comedian picked on a young lad, maybe 17 years old and obviously out with his parents, and suggested they went back to her room and had some oral sex. That wasn't at all funny, it was offensive and I cringed.

It was the lowest point, but we saw about 6 acts on two evenings and all of them were using very bad language, it wasn't funny it was stupid schoolboy humour.

I think you'll find the majority of stand-up live shows are way more offensive than what you see on TV. Personally, it doesn't bother me, I swear like a trooper at the best of times and my own sense of humour can be somewhat gutterish. Having said that, I can sympathise with those who are not so comfortable with that brand of humour.
The best evening we had when the comedy was in Bern was Rich Hall, the man is a comedy genious, I've never laughed so much in my life.
It's a shame the Funny Laundry never took off in Bern, it was a nice try, but there probably isn't the expat population in and around Bern to justify it. Having a venue in the middle of Bümpliz didn't help matters; somewhere more central would have been way better.
