From Seattle to Bülach

Hi everyone, nice to meet you!

We are a family of 3, moving from the USA (Seattle area) to Bülach at the end of this month. Our daughter is 8 years old. We look forward to making connections with other English-speaking people once we arrive!

I'm interested in any information about local playgroups for our daughter.

Also, if anyone in the Bülach area is moving out and looking to sell appliances, furniture, etc., we will have quite a bit of shopping to do in the next few weeks.

Welcome to the forum and to Switzerland! I'm afraid I can't help you with regard to playgroups in your area, but if you need any help settling in I would be happy to help. I am also from the Seattle area

Welcome! My wife and I are both Americans who've been here over 7 years now, we're just over the hill from Bülach and know the area pretty well, we do most of our shopping there. Don't hesitate to send me a PM if you've got any questions about the area or things to do or whatever.

Hi Seattleguy,

Welcome to the forum and I hope your move went well. We live in Bulach and have been here 4 years. We have two girls aged 5 & 7 and they are well integrated here. PM me if you would like to meet up especially playdates for your daughter. We can help with other local things too, although our German is pretty bad (the kids translate for us!).

Enjoy CH.

Welcome to Switzerland. My wife is originally from Seattle (Bainbridge), and I have lots of family in the Seattle region too. Switzerland is a lovely place to live. We don't have kids, so I can't give you advise on that, but anything else I am an open book, do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am Seattle Guy's better half and the one home with our daughter all the time. I'd be thrilled to meet up with any of you and get to know someone that knows and understands the area better.

Please PM me if you are interested in a meet up.

Best,

April

Welcome to Switzerland. The Pacific Northwest is gorgeous but it's beautiful here too. And we get much less rain

You might miss Puget Sound but the accessibility of our mountains make up for it.

I've already been blown away by the mountain views here. We are both originally from the Midwest, so mountains are always a treat for us. Looking forward to exploring!

Re: From Seattle to Bülach

Welcome to Switzerland. Lots of activities here you and your family will love, especially if you are into the outdoors. Hiking, biking, sight-seeing, mountain toboggans (real fun), nature parks, and if you want some fun and relaxation, look into the family hotels (familienhotels or kinderhotels). Great way to go to hotels with activities for kids, so the parents can get some alone time, if desired. Europe is full of them, and they are, many at least, AMAZING. (Google family hotels europe, or whichever country you desire to visit, or familienhotels/kinderhotels if you desire).

Alpine toboggan ex: http://lenzerheide.com/pradaschier_winter/de/ueber_uns
Kinderhotels: http://www.kinderhotels.com/us-start.html?id=262

So much more here. If you need any tips, let me know.

If you need tips where to shop in the area, etc., just ask.

(There's a nice little petting zoo and playground in Bülach!)

Welcome to Switzerland and Bülach!

Banks have a war on US citizen accounts....

The only three banks accepting US customers are
1. Post Finance
2. UBS
3. Credit Suisse

If you have any questions, just ask. We can also translate German for you, if need be.

Re: From Seattle to Bülach

Hi - I know this thread was a few years ago, but my husband and I just moved to Bülach, from NY, with our 2 children (aged 2.5 and 5). We are looking for a connection with an English speaking family who could show us the ropes. Playdates would also be amazing...but we would be grateful for any guidance.
