Hello All,

This a first time posting to introduce myself (in fact this is the first time I have ever posted to any site - and the worst thing is I am an IT guy as well).

My name is Bal and funningly enough as my login name suggests, I come from sunny Birmingham and actually have been living in Lausanne for 6 months. However I take up a new position in Zurich in Jan 2007 for what I hope will be a very long stay, I was still in two minds about whether the Swiss move was the right one but for this new job in Jan I have decided to bite the bullet and get the wife to move over full time as well and put our house in Brum up for rent. So I am hoping that Zurich turns out to be a bit more socialable than Lausanne which is beautiful but a bit on the boring side, hence my decision to jump ship and move to Zurich.

As a first time 'poster' - are there rules I should be aware of so I dont make a complete t**t of myself?

Hi there. Just general rules of common sense, and the standard kind of stuff that applies on the internet. Keep on topic, attempt spelling and punctuation from time to time, post in the right area, don't abuse the staff etc.

Take a look at the announcements area and you'll find a few system-specific rules/guidelines/policies and stuff in there. But the basic rule is read the posts in the various sections and get a feel for what's going on before jumping in with the guns blazing (for most this is common sense anyway, but we always do get a few exceptions!)

Not sure what Sky box you mean but I have got SKY working here in Lausanne using my exisiting SKY subscription back in Brum - got the SKY+ box back there. So when I move over to Zurich I will potentially have two boxes.

Its really nice to see that your trying to make friends, I am too moving to Zurich in fact very similar dates, also my husband in IT. Thats really strange.

I think moving to Zurich will be a big success so bite the bullet and go for it!!!

One things for sure take each day as it comes as theres alot to learn.
