Re: Any Other New Zealanders out there?

I made the mistake of going into an Outback pub in London. Other than the beer selection, there was nothing Australian about it.

Just a bunch of drunken louts watching the footy and rugger and some Sheila's showing too much skin whilst glugging chardy's.

Oh wait.....

You should work at an aircraft maintenance company, there's kiwis and Ozzies all over the place, a lot of banter goes on with them and us Brits. I guess a lot go in the Nelson in Zürich and Paddy's in Basel.

Another ques for you NZers who have moved to Switzerland, how did you go about transferring your NZ driving licence to a swiss one?
Did you have to do a practical test?
We changed our in Fribourg - filled in the form, got an eye test done at the local optometrist (cost CHF 10), and had to show proof of our date of entry into Switzerland (the date was written on our permits.....apparently you should convert within 12 months of being here or else they can make you do the test if they want - although I know people who have waited longer and they were never made to do it), then paid CHF 80 and hand over a photo.
We where given the drivers licence right there and then. Easy peasy.

Re: Any Other New Zealanders out there?

Hey there Kate. i think the form may be different depending on Kanton, but here in Solothurn it was very easy. just turned up to the MFK and got it sorted. No practical test. saved me a ton of $$$ that i didnt have to take another test for car or motorbike licence.

I'd have guess you'd find most of them in Schwyz - due to the lack of vowels.

Hi Suzymoore! We are 3 kiwis (my husband, our 2 year old daughter and I) based in Fribourg, so maybe a little too far for your husband.... but if you ever find yourself nearby and want to meet up for a beer and/or playdate for the kids, let me know

No I did not have to take a practical test.

When we researched if we needed to take a test or not, we received conflicting information. I needed to do an eye test at a local optometrist (10 CHF) and provide a passport photo. I then took these in the local strassenverkehrsamt along with the required form (Google translate helped me through this). At the counter they told me I would need to take a driving test but then my licence arrived within the week along with the bill and no test was required.

I also had to hand in my NZ drivers licence which was returned with a bold "CH UNQÜLTIG" stamp on the back of it. I am hoping and assume it is still valid in NZ.

If you want to tow a trailer, you may want to ask about this at the counter. I am unsure if I am licenced to tow a trailer in Switzerland. I know someone else who transferred the same class of NZ licence to Swiss licence and received the trailer endorsement but I did not.
