Re: Irish in Zurich

hi
I visited Ireland before i came over
i can tell you that Basel seems to have an impressive Irish pub , there is one in Zurich i should visit more often
fun? depends
anything without children seems fun to me
but then again everything is relative
i would consider skiing or hiking or mountain climbing otherwise life can be very dull
sincerly
ziggi
a fan of your country

Re: Irish in Zurich

Socially it'll never beat Ireland, after that it depends on your interests... And where you are, some say Zurich is the best bet for nightlife, concerts etc. It really is what you make of it but takes a bit of work here...

Welcome Rebel

sure Zurich will not be like Dublin but there is plenty of social events on this forum, Zurich will even have it's St patrick's day festival in 2 weeks, details here (only in German I'm afraid)

Zurich is about the same size as the Peoples Republic of Cork but the differences end there. All the clocks in Zurich read the same time unlike Cork where we have the four faced liar! . There are a few langers over here but we are few and far between. In general the place is pretty cool but the level of bureaucracy and reliance on rules really does throw you off and get on your nerves a bit at first. You slowly start to accept it, but certain things will annoy you for a while.

The city is really clean, but does not have the same atmosphere in the evenings as you would get walking down Pana or Washinton St. in Cork.

If you are into the great outdoors, then Switzerland is a great country and there is almost nothing you can't do here. (The surfing sucks!).

Catch ya later fien!

Re: Irish in Zurich

Hello to the Irish in Zurich!

I was there last week on a fact finding mission as we are planning a move there as soon as a suitable job comes up.

I am curious as to the Irish community in Zurich. I work in software development as a tech project/program manager. Any technology networking groups would be of great interest. As would advice on places you find good to live in for a bit of life in it balanced with good schools.....

My target employer would have large scale software projects going on (by default I am looking at Credit Suisse and UBS), so if anyone has any other tips that would be great. I only speak English!

Cheers!

Re: Irish in Zurich

Hey Panata,
im also irish, but maybe try sticking to your own thread cause this one is really old.
or maybe try splitting up the questions and posting them in their relevant sections. The questions always work best when they are more specific as it shows you have done some research of your own.
Just thought i would give you a heads up cause the vetern mob can be a bit fickle.

i actually got confused and thought rebel was just arriving.
woops.
