Moving to Zug

Hi there
I'll be moving to Zug in a month together with my husband. I'm 30, newlywed and originally I'm from Italy so I won't be too far away from my country. I've been browsing around and this forum seems pretty helpful. From what I read so far Zug should be a nice place to live in anyway we'll see it pretty soon....

Re: Moving to Zug

I'd type something in Italian but I only know the bad words

I do hope you're able to deal with the Svizzera-Tedesco [Swiss-German] mentality better than my wife

Hi Raella!

This is a quote from "Xenophobe's guide to the Germans":

"The only people whom the Germans readily concede unquestioned superiority of Teutonic virtues are the Swiss. No German would argue their supremacy in the fields of order, punctuality, diligence, cleanliness and thoroughness."

For some reason I find this to be very true in Kanton Zug in a positive sense.

Re: Moving to Zug

Hello Raella,

I've been in Zug for the past 5 months and like living here. For any excitement you'll need to visit Zurich, though, Zug's got a small-town atmosphere and not a lot to do unless you like the outdoors. Great places for mountain biking and hiking around here (take a look at Zugerland, an area with a lot of hiking trails and bike paths, places to picnic, cross-country skiing).
And, yes, it's very clean, punctual and orderly, but not in a negative way.
When I first saw the way my neighbors here put their old newspaper out for recycling I was amused ... neatly stacked, the edges lined up perfectly, and tied up with a string like a Christmas gift. Must admit I'm getting more fussy about being tidy myself since coming here.
