Just moved to Walchwil

Dear all,

Please allow me to introduce myself...

We have just moved to Walchwil..that is myself ( work in the chocolate industry ) and my wife ( office manager/pa ).. No kids, or at least none that I am aware of.

I am working in Schwyz, my wife will be looking for a position in Zug. She is a Swiss German and after living for the last 8 years in Sarf Lahndan innit and working for a hedge fund in Soho as Office Manager also speaks perfect colloquial English.
She would like to work ideally in an English speaking environment so any pointers anyone may have would be much appreciated.

Anyone in or near Walchwil who would like a decent cup of tea (Betty's and Taylor's of Harrogate) sometime, we would be delighted to meet

Re: Just moved to Walchwil

Hello. Nick here. Welcome to the neighbourhood. Walchwil is a great place to live and you will find fitting in as an expat pretty easy, as there are loads of us. If the weather holds, spend some time at the Badi and you will invariably end up having a BBQ with a bunch of us at one of the homes, or the Spielplatz. Do you have a dog? If so, there is an active dog walking group. One could even join them if you don't have a dog!
Welcome!

Thanks Nick , much appreciated...I went to the Badi yesterday and heard lot of English spoken, will definitely go next weekend too if its still nice.No dog, just a spoilt cat I am afraid but do enjoy walking and have just come back this morning from having a look at the vitaparcours , thought I was fit but it seems a pretty tasty hour or so to get round.

Re: Just moved to Walchwil

Hi!

I was living in Goldau for a year in 2012. I had the family with me and we had there a lot if issues re:integration, schooling, people approach. For someone with kids, I will disadvice the area Arth-Goldau. Walchwil is the next town and, as per my findings, there are always a huge difference between towns, its about a different world.

Obviously Walchwil is not Goldau, and you are only with your wife who has employement already, so definitely situaton is completely different.

Amazing landscapes, Lake Zug (the most amazing for my taste), not a bad climate... I hope you enjoyed that as much as I did, despite the bad welcome we had.

Good tips to visit: take the Rigibahn to the Rigikulm. Amazing. Visit Brunnen and the lake views of the vierwaldstättersee (lake of the 4 forests) and have a trip on the boat to Luzern, Weggis, ...

In summertime, go to Zug and take a pedal boat and have a swim in the lake (water temp is higher in Zug than in Arth, proven!).

Welcome to the forum, make yourself comfortable and enjoy!
Cheers,
Francisco
