The big move ?

Hi All

My husband has a potential opportunity with his current job to move to Zurich ..... exciting !

I currently work as an environmental consultant in the UK and wondered if anyone new anything about this area of the job market in Switzerland? I don't know if we will need a second income or if we would be with one - his monthly income would be about 6K CHF.

Also looking at apartments to rent it seems pretty ££ can anyone recommend nice areas that are resonable ?

Thanks

Hi Nigella,

Welcome! If you use the search function at the top of the page you will find the answers to most of your questions elsewhere in the forums. If after searching you still have specific questions then come back and post them in the relevant topic area and we will do our best to help you.

Re: The big move ?

what does your husband do? Would you consider yourselves to be comfortably-off in the UK? Have any kids?

I know nothing about environmental consultancy.....do you tell people where not to throw their rubbish out? Are you prepared to switch to doing *something else*?

Re: The big move ?

Thanks.

Husband works in IT 6K / month would be based on current UK wages only - but guessing we would get some sort of package with the move.

No kids. Currently live just outside London and are comfortable money-wise.

If I was looking for a job - do I need to be able to speak German or Swiss/German or both ?

Re: The big move ?

if your husband's in IT and it's a move with an international company, he'll likely be getting more money and maybe an expat package. He needs to negotiate on that.

People getting shipped over in my company from the UK get rent support (ie. paid-for) plus other expat benefits.

You could get away with just English but German will mean that you have more opportunities [in the Zurich area]

Re: The big move ?

Hi Nigella,

I think we are going to move this thread over to introductions. I think it would be better placed there. Please note that we try to keep all of the questions and answers organised according to specific subjects and located on similiar "threads". Therefore please ask your questions in the relevant places and limit your questions to one per thread (in other words, don't ask questions on different subjects on the same thread). Have a look around and you'll see what I mean.

Now that we have moved your thread to introductions - welcome to the forum.
