calling for any English speaking mums in Valais

Hi
I did submit a post yesterday but have had no replies. I think the part of Switzerland I am from, english speakers are thin on the ground. I am a Mum of 2 boys we are from the North of England and we would love to meet some other families with children. We have a Chalet in Vercorin which is up the mountain from Sierre in the Valais. We have just moved into our Chalet and we love it!! We bought it mainly to come skiing and spend the summer here and other school holidays. I have 2 boys aged 9 and 7 years. If anyone fancies meeting up with us for a coffee/chat and playtime for the kids do please reply. If I had a choice I would love to live here all the time. I have an internet business and I could work from here but because my children are at school in the UK I am restricted to the school holidays. We did have a house in France which we sold last summer and we were lucky to buy this Chalet, we bought it from some Belgians so we didn't have the permit nightmare which is now a problem for buying in the Valais. I loved France but I like Switzerland better because it seems to be more switched on than France and it is easiler to buy the things you need etc..
I will stop rambling on but we would love to meet up with any Mums or Dads from the Valais region.
Thank you
Swinburne

I would say that a few of my friends that live out that way have all found English speaking fmailies by going to a local french lesson.
It seams thats the way to meet people in the same situation as you

Good Luck

Sam

Don't despair, there are many english origin people in Valais, I lived in Sierre and Grimisuat which is above Sion for 3 years and I still do know of many persons who still living there and also if you have internet you can listen to http://www.worldradio.ch/ this WRGFM an english speaking radio station based in Geneva, if you have a car pop up to Verbier for a day or Nendaz these area's do have many english (British) speaking persons too.

Good luck

Hi Swinburne

I am trying to get all the permits, housing issues, schools etc sorted to move my family (with 3 boys, aged 7, 5 and 4) to Leysin. That might be too far from you? If we make it (this summer hopefully) I'd love to meet up.

By the way, why don't you consider moving the boys to school in Switzerland and moving permanently? You seem to want to...!

Hi Mrs B
Nice to hear from you and I hope you get eveything sorted out for your move. I would love to meet up over the summer. There is a really good Lybarinth near St Maurice which is brilliant for the kids. I took my 2 boys there and they loved it, I have never seen so many toys and things to play on in my life. it is a great place o tire them out. You can take a picnic there aswell.

Leysin isn't too far for us about 1 hour from Vercorin.
look forward to hearing from you when you have settled in.
Thanks
Swinburne

Hi there!
Only just found this site, after several years of living in CH, so now I'm on it...we're just the other side of the valley from Vercorin,so whenever you're next over here,do let us know! I have a 51/2 year old tomboy and an 18month old and have a little network of English speakers in the area...Les Roches international hotel school here is a good source of ex-pats!
Hope to hear back from you!

Hi!

I live near to Rolle and have 3 children, 2 boys 10 and 7 and a girl, 4. If you ever venture this far, then please contact us and we could meet up - although I appreciate it is a bit of a trek from Valais! We have been out here just over 2 years and I can say that the boys have adapted really well to Swiss living. They are both in the local school and are getting on well and have got to grips with the language very quickly.

It has been a big move and quite stressful at times but also an exciting and rewarding one.....

Re: calling for any English speaking mums in Valais

Good morning Swissburne and everyone,

My husband and I live in Chemin (valais) just above martigny with our 1 yr old baby boy. We are renting a chalet up here since 2007 and absolutely love the area. I've been on the lookout for english-speaking families close to us, but at the moment not many expats are living near us (unless we go up to Verbier or Morgin area)...I hope you are settling well where you are. Have you made any contacts with any english speaking community? I'm half swiss/indonesian with an american accent (brought up in that system) but I do speak french. My husband is English (no french just yet ) so we both speak enlgish at home.

If ever you would like to come by for a drink or to visit our side of the mountain, do let me know and we'd be happy to meet you all! It would be really nice to make some friends around us!

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi, I'm not actually a mum, but I am English and I moved to Sierre in October with my husband! I nannied for england (cheshire) for 8 years so I do like children! If any of you want to meet for a brew and English chat (or need a nanny at all!!!) please contact me! I'm always keen to meet new people, and as there aren't many of us english speakers in Valais it would be nice to meet!

Re: calling for any English speaking mums in Valais

Hi Swinburne,

Hope you are enjoying the Swiss summer. I live near Vex so am on the mountain opposite! I am renovating a house and my husband is a teacher in Zug so we are here most of the time but especially during the holidays. I have no children (unless you count my dog) but if you ever want to meet up for a coffee let me know!
