Your going to LOVE it here once you find your bearings. Highly recomend a language course, or home study. It will really help. Even if only to read the menu at a resturant!

And can I just say bravo to you for taking such a giant leap. Not only your first time in Europe, but you move here. Cheers to that!

Hey Man!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about your post. But I admit, at one point I busted out laughing

Are you still jetlagged? Today is Thursday.

Your announcement title reminded me of the movie "Coming to America". Has it really gotten so bad back home that we now have US refugees?

Do you know what Schadenfreude means? Look it up for your information. But don't worry about me. I refuse to be so cruel.

Sounds to me like you're swimming in the deep end. I certainly don't want you to drown. I don't know what you're about, but let's meet so that I can find out.

I'm from L.A., but have been just about everywhere in the 'states. Whatever. I take in the tired, poor, etc. yearning to breathe free.

PM me.

Peace!

Aww poor guy! That's not the right attitude!

First off, as a fellow American. I highly suggest NEVER bragging about this. As a matter of fact, I've just begun to say I'm from North America. In three months time of living here, I have been polled countless times on election proceedings, asked why I didn't personally eliminate Bush from office, had rude names on a train, and my favorite, denied a bank acct. on the simple factr, I'm American. We, as a culture are not well liked.

But with a little adaptation, and lots of insisting that you in fact did NOT vote for Bush, people will respond postively. Last week and EF'er even told me I had a 'British way' about me. My point, be nice. Besides, it's fun to start using all the funny British words we don't use without being a 'poser'.

Besides, the people in the US are just that, in the US. People here are a little more blunt and opinionated than the politeness we are used to. But it's just their way. Most don't mean harm. Life will be pretty boring if you don't have mates to grab a beer with.

I think you should stick with it - heck, I'll even let you buy me a beer at the next Talacker night!

Well, I always thought that most people in the world would be smart enough or maybe just considerate enough that the fact that you are an American doesn't mean that you agree with the American goverment. After all, if we were so approving of their policies, why would be living abroad?
Makes no sense. As for everyone hating everything American, why are all those American TV shows being shown all over the world? Surely, it can't be all such 'rubbish'?
Which bank should I shy away from as an American? I need to open an account....
Thanks,
elizabeth

Re: coming from America!!!

I wouldn't put so much weight on the American thing. It's just a mixture of Schadenfreude and anti-bushism. It'll only affect you if you react to it. Just be good, be proud, and most of all, stay free.

So you're trying to tell us that your income is going to be starting around 500,000.-chf per year..? Anything less wouldn't be considered "rich" in Switzerland..

But we hate Bush as much if not a lot more. I refuse to be lumped in with all the idiots who let him into the White House and lthen let him stay there. Whatever, I refuse to admit that I am American just because some people may be hostile towards me. If they choose to be ignorant, let them, I couldn't care less what they think. Sevvendust, sorry for taking over your thread.

Did you miss a word in that sentence somewhere?

It would be silly for me to deny I am American. It's who I am and I like myself this way.

Nah, I don't deny it. But sometimes if it's a conversation in passing and I want to avoid the whole conversation. I just say I'm N.A..

But we (as a culture) have a repution of throwing it around thinking it's ummmm bada$$. I'm just proud of who I am as a person. And I do think there are really great things about the US, AND about Europe. Too bad we all can't get along more. (Yeah Yeah I know. Women thinking.)

you're right. I was responding to an earlier post by a girl who started saying that she is from North America to avoid controversy. Just saying, I couldn't do that, that's all.
