Moving from New York to Zurich in Apr | Happy CNY!!!

Hello EF!

Have been reading posts on the forum for a while and really enjoyed the insights/sarcasm/humor, such a fun & helpful place!

I am getting excited to move to Zurich in ~ 50 days, right before the snowman burning festival...!

Oh and by the way, as it is already New Year's Eve in China, for those who celebrate it, 过年好!Though I still have to work today, will go and appreciate the CNY-inspired Empire State Building lights tonight

Re: Moving from New York to Zurich in Apr | Happy CNY!!!

Ah my typos...

This might be a long shot but...any one know if there is a Swiss restaurant in New York where I can organize a peace-out brunch/dinner?

Tried to search for places that serve Rösti (my only knowledge of Swiss cuisine other than fondue...) but only found a few German/Austrian places...anyone has experience how to look for Swiss restaurants outside of CH - or there aren't many after all?

then there's this

but frankly you'll have enough swiss dining when you're here i'd opt for a good old diner to get your fill before greasy spoons are a thing of the past

and welcome from another nyer

This is awesome! Thank you

Unfortunately Heidi aka Extra Place is already closed

I think I will try either Trestle on Tenth or Cafe Select, or both

Yea agree that I will be having a lot of swiss food myself...but trying to so some small group farewells, and inspire my friends to come to CH to visit me

Again thank you!! Will probably be asking later where can I find proper bagel with lox/deli style cheesecake/eggs benedict in Zurich...

trust me when i tell you no matter how good the fondue, raclette or anything else is- it'll be a tough chore to get new yorkers to visit switzerland. i usually meet up with my people in france or italy- and can count the visits directly to switzerland on my hand (at least for friends, not family) as you may know new yorkers need a good reason to leave, even if for just a few weeks

as for zurich, i can't help you (i'm in lausanne) and as for bagels, i never really liked them but if that's your thing, i wouldn't settle for a swiss one, just wait for ny. cheesecake, of course the best is at my house, otherwise i'm not a fan of any here (people here say they like the starbucks cheesecake to give you an idea ) eggs benedict, again i don't eat and you'll never find an egg sandwich like you find in new york so give up the dream. however, at least over here in lausanne, croissants are dreamy, wine is great and and cheese (if that's your thing) is everywhere. enjoy

There's a Raclette place in the West Village. Check on Yelp I don't know the exact name

Swiss Chalet

Sorry, could't help it. Of course, nothing Swiss about it. I found that foods taste different in different parts of the world. There is a reason why everything in the US "tastes like chicken" :

Welcome to the forum and to CH!

Re: Moving from New York to Zurich in Apr | Happy CNY!!!

hello and almost welcome!
I am from nyc, been here 13 years. came for love.. married, then divorced, and if I had the means I would have left long ago I suppose. im a poor chickie who needs to pinch every franc to be able to go visit each year. nyc , theres NO place like it. Yes, its all green and beautiful here, and the trains and buses actually run on time, but there are many things I don't like here...one of which is this apprenticeship system in the school!!
sorry, I was just ranting there!!
the Lord has blessed me, to be able to have lived here... and I pray he opens doors and gets me back home in a year or so.
why are you coming to swissieland if I may ask?
get your fill of NY yummies...cause there are many things you will not find here!!!
