The cat felt like a change...

...so she, I and my boyfriend are moving from Scotland (Aberdeen) to Vaud this summer, where we'll be keeping her in Swiss milk and Toblerone by working in an International School and offshore in the North Sea respectively.

I've found this site incredibly helpful from the Just Thinking About Applying stage to now actually looking into renting etc, so thank you.

I've been doing lots of research all over (nothing like researching tax non-stop to brighten up those dreary winter months) but will do doubt be needing to take advantage of the experience and specific knowledge on here - and maybe make some friends in the area once we're settled? - so just wanted to introduce myself: I'm Kate, Milla Mittensky is the cat, and Matt is the one who'll be bringing over M&S beans and butteries from Scotland once a month.

Look forward to hopefully chatting with some of you soon.

Re: The cat felt like a change...

Good question! My school french is very rusty, so I'm hoping that once Milla is immersed (she's not even one yet, and they say children pick up new languages the quickest), she'll be bilingual in no time and able to be our adorably fluffy translator. You may be right that a few starter lessons before moving could be a prudent plan though - thanks for the tip!

Although not sure if 'good' does that justice...love it! Off to show Her Whiskerness. Very inspirational on both the language and sartorial front!

Re: The cat felt like a change...

Mind you, she would maybe fit in better dressed like this (duck optional)

Re: The cat felt like a change...

Is a duck ever really optional though? I know what these buddies would say...

Welcome to the forum.

Dirty Harry, my avatar mutt, is perfectly bilingual too, albeit Swiss German & English. When Swiss who know I'm Swiss ask why I speak English to my dog, I dead-pan, "He's an Old English Sheepdog, after all." Their faces: priceless.

Greetings Kate, Milla Mittensky and Matt!!
Best of luck with the move!

(ps. The feline in my pic just moved to CH this past summer. He seems to dig the place so far. He says to tell Milla she is in for an adventure. )

Re: The cat felt like a change...

our cats are tri-lingual - English, Luxemburgish and Swiss-German. However we have not really found "are you still alive, mouse?" to be a very successful conversation starter....

Welcome Milla....oh and your people
