Two new Australians in Geneva :)

Hi everyone. I have been reading this forum for a while, in preparation for our move to Geneva. It has been enormously helpful in answering our trivial questions (should we bring the kettle or not??!), and now that we are here I thought I should come out of lurking-land to thank you all for your help so far, and introduce myself.

My name is Reyna, and have moved here with my husband Barry. Barry is working, but I am lucky enough to be a lady of leisure! We are not French-speakers, so I figure that my first role will be to learn enough French to help us do all those things we have to do: find an apartment, buy stuff we need, pay bills etc etc

Anyway, thanks again for the forum. I know it is going to be invaluable as we start out on our grand adventure.

Welcome. When did you acquire Australian citizenship? If you're aiming for Swiss as well, you'll find it a lot more difficult.

What makes you think that she's not Australian from birth?

Actually, that's not what I meant. I meant we are new to Geneva, not that we are new Australians. Aussie born and bred, I'm afraid

Thanks for the welcomes.

Don't be afraid -- that's the best possible start in life, IMNSHO.

(For those not so lucky, "new Australian" is a term used in Australia for immigrants who acquire citizenship -- particularly for the Italians and Greeks who moved to Australia after WWII.)

G'day

We're new to Geneva also, 2 newly married Aussies from Sydney who arrived March 13. She is working and I have some spare time. We spent a few months here in 2013 so we understand some of the goings on, but French is still a foreign concept.

Hi too all!
Doug and Brooke

p.s Looking forward to Summer

Hi to you, too! We're from Brisbane, but lived in Sydney for ten years or so. Hope all is going well for you. Have you found somewhere to live yet? Enrolled in a French course??
