Re: Greetings from the UK!

Maybe yWelcome.

Do you want to learn from the point of view of potentially working here?

You could try the book living and working in Switzerland, plus reading some of the threads on hear. Particularly housing, schools.

You probably don't really want to immediately learn about the culture, military politics related (swissinfo.ch will give a taste)? You just want survival stuff for a job move???

Re: Greetings from the UK!

Thanks All!

Actually, I just started teaching Swiss students via Skype, so I'm interested in expanding my knowledge base to make lessons more relevant. I feel it's better to hear about the cognate topics first-hand and from those living in Switzerland now.

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and looking to learn more about Swiss culture.

There is no such thing as a Swiss Culture

There are cultures
- in Eastern Switzerland
- in Graubünden
- in Zürich and Schaffhausen
- in Central Switzerland
- in Basel
- in Bern & Solothurn
- in the Romandie outside Geneva, which means BURGUNDY, in other words the cantons of Jura, Neuchâtel, Vaud and the French speaking parts of Bern, Fribourg, Valais
- Geneva (culturally Savoyard)
- Ticino plus Mesolcina, Poschiavo and Bregaglia (in Graubünden)

Imagine that German speaking Swiss spend more than 65% of their TV time watching German channels --- and the same with the French speakers

I suspect the OP can't imagine how bad Swiss TV is, I am amazed that it even gets 35% of the viewers time.
