Hi Kate,
I too hail from Cape Town, however I left when I was 2 years old and did some time in Swaziland, then PE then PTA then Malawi... and ended up spending most of the last two years in Zurich. I have friends in CT with their own media firm - running a tourism magazine. They visited me last year.
At the moment I am tidying up and preparing to leave Zurich. I must admit I have enjoyed the Swiss way of life, however I have plans and who knows perhaps I will return some day.
Good luck with your Recce trip!
Best wishes,
Roger

| Hi everyone
I came across this forum while doing a little Internet research on relocation.
I began travelling in the mid-eighties and ended up living in Bern for several years until returning to SA in 1994. I have spent 14 (mainly) thrilling years exploring my country of birth, and live in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I work in media, doing research and writing for documentary filmmakers and authors, and love the work, but with living costs rising and as a divorced parent, am finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. Not too sure about the demand for media work in CH, but speak German, French and some Spanish and Italian.
As well as the cost of living, some of my motives for wanting to leave are unfortunately similar to those expressed elsewhere on this forum (the 'c', 'Z', and 'e' words etc). But above all a desire for change, to live in a place which is central and hopefully where my little boy can run around outside. I'm not interested in South Africa-bashing, as I feel things were much much worse in the 'old days'. I believe the country has a deeply damaged psyche which will take decades if not centuries to heal.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself...I'm interested in settling in Lausanne or Neuchatel, and am planning a 'recce' trip in August this year.
Will also check out specific forums re practicalities.
Cheers
