San Francisco Bay Area to Zurich = culture shock

Hey,

I've been here for a while and after 3 months, lurking and learning. I still can't say I've gotten used to the Swiss way of making friends. In the US, it's kind of a cliche that in elevators people are quiet and unwilling to talk, in Switzerland, a bus or tram seems to be a giant elevator of sorts.

Anyway, having said that, I'm start to find some non-typical Swiss people and now looking to join a sattelite apartment in Oerlikon that promises to be a bit more social. Still, if anyone's more of an outgoing type here in Zurich and wants to meet up or have any tips on places with a more underground music/art scene or where the crowds are generally warmer, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Welcome to EF

Crowds are generally warmer at bars etc. Alcohol helps, I suppose

Also, look in to glocals, meetups etc. Look at the activities section of this forum and you can join in there too.

Best of luck.

On four trips to the USA I got into conversation with the whole Nation there -- at Airports -- in Museums - on airplanes --- etc ; and enjoyed the open ways of the Americans

Oerlikon --- yes, a good choice, but possibly an expensive one
