From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Hi! My name is Emily. I'm 25 years old and currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am moving to Lausanne mid May and am starting my research now and planning what I want to do when I'm out there. I've only ever passed through Lausanne so have no idea really what it will be like to live there. I'm travelling in search of learning, new adventures and finding out what kind of adult I want to be. I studied Music at uni here in Edinburgh so am wanting to pursue that if possible as I haven't had much opportunity since I graduated as I've been focussing on paying bills and making ends meet. I'm thinking it may be fun to join a choir or something like that. A great way to meet people.
I have a hospitality background so have a real interest in good food, wine and cocktails. I'm looking forward to checking out the music scene with all the music festivals coming up in the summer. I'm also looking forward to some sunshine and less storms.

Re: From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Welcome to the forum. I suggest getting hold of a copy of "Living and Working in Switzerland" by David Hampshire. It's full of useful info for both before and after you move. You can order it from your local bookshop or via the internet.

Re: From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Hi Emily!

Im Joel from Australia. Me and my girlfriend are moving to Lausanne within 1 month, since I will be starting my phd there. We are looking for 2-3 nice relaxed people to find a nice place together with, since good accommodation is expensive in Lausanne! We are happy young people who get along well with others. Will you be staying in Lausanne long? Have you found a long term place to stay yet? If you want to have a small chat and decide whether or not we might try living together please write me a message here:
<email removed - use PM instead>

all the best!
Joel

Re: From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Hi Joel,

I'm currently sorted for accommodation to get me started as my dad already lives out there so I have a bit of a base while I set myself up.

Good luck finding somewhere and with your studies!!!

Welcome! No "Angel with a bagpipe" in Lausanne, but plenty of nice places to eat. Do venture along the coast to Vevey and the Lavaux vineyards, then the experience will be truly different from Edinburgh. It will be a lot more difficult to listen to Runrig or Rura live, but there's plenty of great little festivals in the Summer. The BIG, most famous one, Paleo, was sold out within 20 minutes of opening for online tickets. Pity!

Re: From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Hi,

My name is Peter. I've just arrived Lausanne and will be here for two months.
I'm 24 based in Derby in the UK and originally from the Wirral.

If you fancy meeting up I'd like to go and find some good music venues and finding somewhere good to eat (and talking to someone I don't have to pretend to know French with!). I'm also keen to get out into the Alps and see the surrounding towns.

If you're up for it let me know.

Hello Erin!
Yes, meeting for a coffee when you're back sounds like a great idea! I'm away for a week around the 10th of September for a wedding but we should definitely meet when we're both in Lausanne. When do you come back?

Re: From Edinburgh to Lausanne

Hello!

If anyone in Lausanne wants to speak English over a cup of coffee (or, even better, English tea), my church has a free, no religion necessary, coffee morning most Wednesdays from 9:30 until noon.

(I say most Wednesdays because today and next week it has had to be cancelled as the church is involved in an evangelistic work at Montreux Jazz.)

My parents run it and they are very nice people (and my dad makes a great cup of tea).

I would offer to meet people but I'm stuck in hospital at present.

Anyway, if you're interested, the church is a 10 minute walk from Lausanne station, in Chemin des Fleurettes. More details on the church website: www.lausanne-english-church.com

Hope you're all enjoying your summers!

Victoria

Ah brilliant, I will be back around the 14th of September so will send you a message nearer the time to arrange a date if that works for you? Have a good summer!
