More Canucks in town!
We joined this forum about 6 years ago when my Canadian fiancée moved in with me (I'm German) in Glattfelden, CH. She doesn't speak much German and we had thought we would stay but she got a great job offer in Canada so we spent the last 5.5years there. We both have good jobs but we miss Europe and have young twins now so looking forward to being near my parents and also escaping the nasty winters and humid summers - ugh! So we are selling our snowblower and coming back to our beloved Switzerland!
Fortunately I was able to find a job already and we will move at the end of August. Unfortunately I sold my flat where we were living before and now, without a residency permit we can't easily buy another place until we arrive which is such a headache - really not looking forward to moving twice! Probably looking to settle in Muri because we have close friends there with kids close in age. Not sure how my wife's social life in a small town will be - but we can't afford to live in Zürich on one salary anyway.
Any advice for us in terms of immigration as an EU and non-EU couple and mortgages (difference between North American mortgage system and CH system) and what my wife can expect in terms of being at home with the kids trying to learn German and looking for mommy-toddler activities or hiring an au pair would be great! She is a senior research advisor type in a specialist field and thinking she would like to start a consulting business. Any experiences with being self-employed would also be awesome, thanks!
We will be reading through ever post we can find on here :-)
Looking forward to being regulars on here!
