Kiwi in Luzern

Hi EF community,

Thought it was about time I introduced myself - as I have been reading from afar all the useful info in here. .. . I am also a little slow in learning how to fully use this vast forum (I blame that I tend to use my phone)

So I was brought up in NZ but am from a British family. I'm not so new to Switzerland as I lived in Ticino for 12 years with my Italian husband, and we moved to Luzern in February after a year in New Zealand. I have moved all over the place since I was 21 and enjoyed it - but now I find I have too much baggage!! Luzern is amazing but I am finding it slow going to settle in here and so are my teens. language is one thing - and we are all working on it (them more than me ) & age is probably another, but the EF site is great company at times!!

Cheers,

Welcome back to Switzerland. The differences between Lugano and Luzern are of course heavy. BUT Luzern is strategically located in the middle. You can reach Lugano, Zürich, Basel, Bern etc within less than 90 minutes and there are lots of English Speakers and Italian Speakers in Luzern

Re: Kiwi in Luzern

Welcome back to CH.
We lived down in the LU area and found it difficult adjusting even though we speak the language.
We found the place beautiful but the people insular, and for us, whom have travelled and lived also all over the place, didn't fit well at all.
Fortunately we moved back to ZH were it's a lot more cosmopolitan, suits us perfect.
All the best.

There is a NZ club based in Zurich, and I see the next event is a walk in Luzern see http://www.nzclub.ch/ (though doubt teen keen on that). Also aussie / kiwis in Switzerland on fb.

Re: Kiwi in Luzern

Hey kiwi,
This is Vivian, I come from China Shanghai, have been in Lucerne 3 months now.
I'm now learning German in a language school, it seems only when foreigners can only speak better German, then it's easier to live here.
Since we are both in Lucerne, we could go for a cup of coffee together!
Have a nice day!
Vivian

Re: Kiwi in Luzern

Hey thanks all for the replies and tips.
Perhaps Zurich would have been better - doh!
Will have a look at the Kiwi club for sure.

Hi Vivian,

Coffee sounds good - ice cream might be better in this heat
I am off on holiday before I start to work, so until we get a chance to meet up, I thought you also might be interested in -
http://www.meetup.com/Luzern-and-Cen...nts/223412193/
they seem to do lots of fun meet ups - though I have yet been to any - I seem to be forever disorganised in this world of hyper organisation!!!

Arwen
