Moving to Swizerland- Zug/Baar/Cham

Hi all- moving to Switzerland next month with my husband , 2 year old and baby( will be 7 weeks old). We are moving from Dublin.
Most likely to settle somewhere around Zug/Cham/Baar. We have accomodation for two months and then settle in one of those towns!!!

Getting nervous and excited. Hoping to meet some expats and create a circle of friends in the same circumstance as ourselves that is young kids etc.

Any advice!

Welcome

There are plenty of English speaking expats around those towns...and you should be able to find accommodation in the two months (assuming you have a realistic budget).

Don't have kids so can't advise on how to meet other mums, but head for the Badi (lakeside swimming area) on a sunny day and you'd find families!

Re: Moving to Swizerland- Zug/Baar/Cham

Hi, I am planning to move from Mumbai, India with wife and 7 year old son to Zug / Baar / Cham in the last week of August 2015. Look forward to share and learn the settling down experience on this forum

Currently top of mind are:
1) Schooling for my child (will consider a bilingual school such as four forests or an international school such as ISOC or ISZL
2) Accommodation (Looking for a 3.5 to 4.5 Room apartment, ideally furnished, but might also choose to ship my furniture from India)

I will share more notes on the above as I proceed. Please do the same as well.

I liked the Comparis property site for house hunting - it aggregates from lots of other sites such as Homegate, had more finely tuned search functionality, and (in many cases) a Google map and street view.

Good luck!

Re: Moving to Swizerland- Zug/Baar/Cham

Hi !

Welcome to Baar and Zug.
There are indeed many expats here. About 24% of people living in the Canton of Zug are foreigners. Also the local Swiss are very friendly and will welcome you. However, do mind the law as they are very strict (driving, train tickets, recycling, etc...) which is one of the pillars of keeping this place safe and pleasant, particularly for families.

To meet other expats, you and your husband can join respectively the International Women's Club of Zug (IWCZ) and the International Men's Club of Zug (IMCZ). As I am of the latter kind I can only really tell you about IMCZ - we meet every Thursday night at 6 pm for a drink at the City Garden Hotel; your husband is welcome. There is also the website: www.imcz.com.

Have a safe and uneventful move.
