Norwegian moving to Winterthur

Hi everyone!
Finally after a 5 year longdistance relationship with my Swiss boyfriend, we are moving together. We just got an apartment in Winterthur, so these days I feel Im just way over my head with translating my documents, organizing the move etc. Im moving at the end of August :)

I know I can find so much information in this forum, but just in case anyone would read this as well.. I could need tips about:

- should I bring my car? Or move with an agency instead? (not bringing so much furniture.. its probably cheaper to buy that?)
- I´ve found out that my education documents as a nurse and paramedic has to be accepted by the Red Cross, has anyone done this before? Is it difficult to find a job as health personnel without being superior in German?

Crossing my fingers that everything will go smoothly and looking forwards to landing on both feet at least before christmas! Hehe :)

Re: Norwegian moving to Winterthur

Hello godaco,

I live in Winterthur with my family since 9 years, and we are very happy.

We don't have a car ... everything can easily be reached by bicycle, and Zürich is easy to reach by train ... 30 minutes.

Everybody goes shopping in Konstanz, Germany.

Switzerland has many giant secondhand shops, over here they are called Brockenstube or short: Brocki. Sell your stuff and buy second hand over here.

Welcome to Winterthur! Be prepared for tropical heat during summer!

Sell your car in Norway, and buy one here, it'll be about half the price.

Same for any motorcycles.

Thank you!
I just figured maybe the price for renting a truck vs. driving my golf (full of all my stuff) might cost about the same.. thinking of the money I loose for bringing in the car, hehe. But yeah, maybe youre right

Hey,

I am new, too...and we are considering Winterthur as a potential spot for our later move, so I am looking forward to hearing about your experience once you have moved!

Don't forget though if you pack your car to the brim, the customs guys might give you the evil eye...

Take care
T

Re: Norwegian moving to Winterthur

I've been living in Winterthur for about three months now, like it so far We have a car (my bf does), but use it only for weekend trips to other cities & places. You don't really need a car in Winterthur, everything is nearby...

Welcome to Winterthur, hope you'll like it here

From Oslo to Zurich...considering you won't be able to one way rent a truck, expect about 2700 in expenses atleast. Plus take the ferry over driving and bridges. Works about to the same costs and you get more sleep and parties...then grey skies and moose/meese.

I saw your car yesterday in Winterthur - Black golf with Norwegian plate, letters TEAM on the C-pillar

The world is small, and EF even smaller - welcome!
