Hi,

I'm moving to Bern, from Illinois. My husband and I will be living there from mid-August to December. We are both taking sabbatical leaves from our university jobs. I'm interested in learning as much as I can about our temporary home. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to Bern! There's get togethers for English expat types in Bern and lots to do in the Bernese Oberland which I'm sure you already know about. Lived in Chicago for about 6 years myself going back 10 years now.

Bern is lovely - we really, really enjoy living here - it's a nice size city, very comfortable walking around, great views, very pleasant.

Hi Lynne & welcome to the forum & also to Bern. Keep an eye out on the Social Calendar, as we have regular meetups over beer & have a few things planned for the summer - BBQ, rafting etc.

We don't yet know where we'll be living. That's one of the reasons I joined this forum. My husband will be at the university, so I imagine we'll want to live somewhere reasonably accessible to there.

Bern is small enough that you can live anywhere & still be within 15 mins of the university. Let us know what your "wish list" is & we can give you some advice on areas, ie. Old Town, leafy suburbs, out of town village etc.
