Moving from SF to Zurich: Introduction

Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum for a few months now, but now that our move is only 3 weeks away (!!) I figured it was worth an introduction.

We are a married couple in our late 20's, soon to be downgraded to registered-partnered couple in our late 20's by the Swiss authorities, at least pending any new legal situation for gay marriages. We have been living in the San Francisco area for about six years, and one of us is starting a postdoc near Zurich while the other is starting a PhD in Zurich. We are one Texan (I'm realizing that this is an identity onto itself), and one Canadian/French dual citizen who was pleasantly surprised by the relative freedom afforded by her EU passport even in non-EU Switzerland. I've been thanking my mom for declaring me to French authorities when I was born!

We're looking forward to moving, even as we sort through all the requisite paperwork. Also looking forward to meeting some new people, improving our fledgling High German, and beginning our non-existent Swiss German (Pimsleur tapes, here we go!).

Welcome to Zürich and to EF. But please realize that places here are narrow and you may miss the space you are used to, and I do NOT refer to TX but to SFO

In regard to the wines, most wines you enjoy in California also are around in Europe BUT the names can be MISleading as the same Name does NOT mean the same product

Welcome. I'm glad the Swiss authorities are not downgrading your age at least. I got here when I was 25 and they immediately downgraded me 10 years to 35.

Welcome to Switzerland! I moved to Switzerland from SF and now live in Biel with my husband. I am always trying to make new friends and if you're ever in Biel it would be cool to get a coffee
