Meeting mums in Basel

Hi

I am recently from the UK wanting to meet other mums and kids that I and my children can talk to/meet up with. My daughter of 6 is very lonely compared to in the UK, she is unable to play in English which I know she misses. My son is 9 and I am looking for a cricket or tennis club to put him into? does anyone know of any where we might find some English speakers?

Thank you

R

Re: Meeting mums in Basel

Basel has a cricket club: http://www.baselcricket.ch/, although I guess getting towards the end of the season.

There's the rugby club which has a lot of expats, but I don't know how much is geared towards children.

What school are you putting them into? If going local, then it will be harder to integrate into the expat community as when I look back most of the English-speaking friends we made were through organisations like the BCT (http://www.baselchildrenstrust.ch/) - this could be an option as well.

Good luck.

Don't know of any tennis clubs but my son (10yr) play cricket for the Basel Dragons. It is run by expats and is english speaking. They meet on a Saturday morning 10 -12.30pm. They play outdoors until about Oct and then move inside. The outdoor playing fields are at Gymnasium Bäumlihof
Zu den drei Linden 80 4058 Basel. They have a website you can look at. Why not bring your son along on a Saturday morning so he can watch for half hour or so

Re: Meeting mums in Basel

Hi
We arrived in March this year from the UK to Basel and our daughter is 20 months. She's probably too little to play with your two but if you fancy meeting for a coffee PM me. I'm betting I know exactly how you feel... the zoo is a nice place to go but you probably found that already!
Best wishes
Rufus

Re: Meeting mums in Basel

After four years away from Basel we have now come back. I have a four year old boy and a second one due in December. Last time life here was very different as we didn't have children and I was working. So I would love to meet some other families. Play dates with the kids or coffee in the morning when my son is at kindergarten. Anyone want to meet??
