Just arrived in Zurich

Hello forum members

I have just (yesterday!) started work at a company in Zurich centre, and am currently residing in Wolleshofen until I find my feet.

Having no previous experience of Switzerland at all, in the run up to moving out here lurking on this forum has been a great help. Where else can you find answers to those pressing questions such as "How does the Zurisack work?"; "What are the Swiss rules about x?" or other random thoughts a complete country-noob and non-German speaker requires?

Big thanks to members Wolleshofen, Fatmanfilms and Medea Fleecestealer (amongst others), who seem to pop up a lot on the posts I read, giving helpful, good natured (and often amusing) advice. I run a guitar collectors forum myself, so I know how important it is to have a core of knowlegable good guys who like to hang out regularly.

I look forward to taking part in forum life a bit more regularly, now I can post in person.

Regards

Ian

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

Welcome to the forum and to Switzerland Ian, hope you enjoy your time with both.

Another suggestion for you if you haven't done it already. Get hold of a copy of "Living and Working in Switzerland" by David Hampshire. It's full of useful info for newcomers. You can order from your local bookshop or via the Internet.

If you have more questions - well, you know where to come.

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

I am surprised. Flabberghasted. Overcome with joy.
A new member appears here. Fills in a profile with relevant (and amusing) information. Writes a intro which is REALLY worth reading and as a second post starts a new thread with a new theme which raises very interesting points.

I must be dreaming. It cannot be true. I'll go back to bed till the shock passes off.

Later:
I've woken up. I've checked it out. It is true after all. Welcome to the Forum. PLEASE stick around. Mind you, the user name will take a bit of getting used to.
Pity the title of your intro thread is so 'run of the mill'. It won't catch a members' eyes. They will miss some fun.

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

Takes a bow...

As mentioned before, I'm a long time forum moderator myself (since the year 1999, and not this one!) so I understand the way an online community works best.

Don't blink. I'll be passing on advice and helping people next.

Regards

Your wish is my command. Now it includes the magic of clickbait!

Was: Just arrived in Zurich

Now: New to Zurich - you won't BELIEVE what he does next!

(Except of course, on this forum I can't edit the title of my posts. Or even my posts!)

Regards

Ian

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

I'm still frustrated that this is not attracting as much attention as it might.

You should have entitled it 'Guitar Forum Mod arrives in Zürich' then guitar enthusiasts would have opened it to see more about you, all the Mods would check out if you were advertising your wares and all the Spam Deputies, who can't wait to OneTouchBanandClean new members who only join to spam the Forum, would have had their trigger fingers ready - and be disappointed or perhaps pleasantly surprised.

Later you can edit your posts but title alterations need the kindly help of a Moderator.
Very helpful tips, if you haven't already seen them, are in the Forum Support section.

Ta muchly.

Still yet to have a chat with anyone in person apart from those I work with. Despite my team dinging escapades (see other thread).
