Why is it laughed at? If someone decides to stop drinking then this person probably has very good reason to do so, oder?
If somebody starts drinking even more so...

No, we talking about you making absolute ultimata to somebody who is, ostensibly, your equal: a sentient, independent human being who is perfectly capable of making his own decisions.

You said yourself you like to "keep him on a short leash".

Sounds like you're just interest in controlling him. The beer is just a vehicle for your power trip.
Everyone, everyone with a bit of distance and intelligence will understand this was probably a joke. Sense of humor failure.

Nah, he just couldn't miss the opportunity to lecture someone... I hope you took notice and will change your vicious ways from now on.
Or maybe he took everything literally. Why would you care? It's your relation and you know better than anyone else how things are...use parsimony when posting anything so personal on EF.

Only "probably" a joke?

Sounds like bullshit backtracking to me, especially after all the self-justification you indulged in after I called you out on your misanthropic attitudes.

Re: Would like to talk to others who don't drink anymore

All this back slapping and outpouring of love for each other has had an effect.

F*** it i'm getting drunk El Lokal + Talacker, Zurich this evening.

Find me if you dare.

Talacker = Fond memories for the old ZH EF drinking crew "Uncle Max where art thou?"

I can never go into that place without thinking about "Mark" falling into the pool outside after a few to many.

At least it's better than the homophobic slurs she sent me last time, and I'm not even gay.

lol, looks like we've got more than one crazy on this thread.

Enguete: you're not as special as you think you are. You're not the only person in the world to have taken a pleasure a bit too far. You're not the only person in the world to have given up a vice. Get over yourself.

Cheers!

We all have neural connections permanently changed in our brains each time we do something; it's not a guide to illness.

The brain generally favours routine and tries to pass off as many decisions to the subconscious as possible; this is also where "muscle memory" comes in. Despite the fact most of us have cupboards full of food and near permanent access to more food to buy, evolution has made us value saving energy, and the brain uses a lot.

So we're all addicts in that we all get a good feeling from repetitive actions (oi, shush at the back). Addiction is a stronger desire to repeat and needs more measurements to define it as an illness. That's how I understand it all, anyway.

Re: Would like to talk to others who don't drink anymore

@Dog
I hope you don't, in fact, give up. I took your post to be a genuine attempt to get in touch with others giving up drinking. And I find it sad that so many of the responses to your post, particularly the responses of some of the other users to each others' posts, do not address your topic. It happens over and over again on forums that threads gradually shift to being about something else, yet this one seems to have deteriorated markedly, most of which, I guess, is nothing constructive to do with you and your needs.

Because I hoped for links or recommendations, I wrote to AA.

"Good Day
We are looking for in-patient/clinic facilities, in Switzerland, for English-speaking persons dealing with their drinking habits.

Do you have any recommendations, please? We'd be most grateful for a list of links, should you be able to supply such.
Thank you."

I was surprised by the reply:

"Hello
Sorry, we can't help you with this. Alcoholics Anonymous is framed by a
series of Traditions, one of which states:
An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the A.A.
name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems
of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

Thank you for your enquiry.
Yours in service,
[NAME]
European web response team."

I admire you for trying, and for being honest with yourself. As some posts in this thread confirm, standing up and facing what's going on, with alcohol, is not an easy anyone.

Thank you and you are lovely but no, I am really not one of these women who believe they can save anyone by taking care, showing lots of love or ultimatum. It simply does not work so the best thing one can do is to be a bit selfish and save yourself, your own future by leaving such relationship. Being soft, accepting, understanding is wrong as by doing it you agree to spend the rest of your life in alcoholic relationship. Why would you? Why anyone should do it? I believe I deserve better. There are women who choose to stay in abusive relationships but it is hell on earth.

I am not planing of trying to save anyone. I just don't want to have this problem in my relationship. I chose not to be in alcoholic relationship. I don't expect any abstinence but control and moderation but if he loves his beer more than he loves me the door is open... I see nothing wrong with it.

Alcohol, if it doesn't ruin your life and can be controlled is wonderful.

I am hesitant to write as Izabela cannot respond for a while.
This message struck me so I hope you won't mind me piping up.

You love a person as he is. If he has a weakness you help him through.
Many people who drink really do try their best to break away.
It would be a terrible shame to leave a loving relationship due to an issue that can be helped and even cured.

I feel touched by the subject because though I do not drink more than a glass of red wine once in a while, I have had loved ones with a drinking problem and it caused me to anguish. Couldn't imagine rejecting them due to the problem though.

Ironic, people like you are the problem. Filling thread after thread with off topic chatting, picking fights and taking the piss. So far you have contributed absolutely zero to this thread. If you have nothing to say, why not just stay out of the thread? This behaviour really reduces the quality of the forum and on any serious forum you would be long banned by now.
