NZ family living in Thun

Hi-ya - I (Tessa) have been looking at this forum for a few months and have finally signed up. We are a family from NZ living in Thun (actually Steffisburg) for 7 months - tho we are halfway through our stay - leaving January 2016. My husband Billy is a NZ born Swiss so has duel citizenship and speaks Schweizerdeutsch and his mum lives in Thun. We decided to have a family year of adventure so my husband took a years leave of his job, we spent time with my family in Nelson and now spending time with his mum and helped her celebrate her 70th birthday. We have four kids - Leah (11), Grace (9), Oliver (7) and Zac (4) who are all attending our local Swiss school/kindy, a five minute walk away and are really enjoying school - slowing learning the language. It's amazing how kids make friends and play with other kids - no talking needed!
So if there is anyone in the region - say Hi!

Re: NZ family living in Thun

Hi from kiwis living in Richterswil, Zurich. Hubby is also Swiwi... born and raised in Hamilton, Waikato. We are also duel citizens: kiwi/swiss. Would you like to catch up some weekend? Always nice to meet fellow kiwis. Message me if you want. (Also have daughter 18yr living with us) If you ever miss flat whites, there is a NZ café in in middle of Stadt Zuri. Sorry, a bit of caffeine withdrawal for them at times. They also stock L&P and Steinies.

Been here since May. Enjoy wandering around and seeing new parts of the country too.

Cheers, Jacqui

Hi Tessa,
I live quite close to Thun, am a South African mom who has been here for quite a while (22 years with a 5 year break in between) and would love to meet up.
My girls are a bit older than your children (15 and 16) and go to the local Waldorf school in Steffisburg and Ittigen.
Do you knit?
I will be hosting the first meeting of a local knitting group I am trying to get going on the 2nd November.
Let me know if you are interested.
Warm regards
Natalie

Re: NZ family living in Thun

HI - I'm sorry I missed the knitting group. I filed it away in my brain as being on the 4th November. Did it go well? I do knit - but rather slowly, am knitting a vest for my neice who is probably growing faster than my knitting.
Thanks for letting me know about it.
Tessa
