Re: anyone near schaffhausen??

Hi,

I moved to Schaffhausen last summer with my partner and two children who go to the International School here ISSH.

I have really enjoyed it. It is a big enough town with lots of shops. bars, restaurants and a fantastic swimming pool but small enough that you may bump int to people sometimes. The area is great too, the Rhine, Lake Constance and the Black Forest all close by and Zurich only 40 minutes by train.

It is cheeper too, because of it's proximity to Germany (where I shop for food most weeks and save a fortune). Hope your move goes smoothly.........

I live in canton Schaffhausen, but up north about a few km from Stühlingen, Germany. If you ever find any social events to attend, send me a pm, I might be interested in coming. Good luck with your move : ) I'd be happy to show you around the town to get you a bit familiar once you arrive.

Hi Flatscreen2007,

we are planning to move to schaffahausen, hopefully in the next few months with work. I will be moving with my wife and 2 daughters (8&6). They hopefully too will begoing to the ISSH school. My question, how is the school, we have read the web, but your thoughts would be welcome. Can you suggest any areas to live ? we are planning a weekend over on the 8th Aug, to have a look with a relocation partner. any ideas ?

Re: anyone near schaffhausen??

hi

we have just returned from a house hunting week in schaffhausen which was an interesting experience. the relocation expert that we had was absolutely fantastic and helped us enormously. it depends on wether you want a flat or a house, there are more flats to rent so this may be a good thing to do for a few months until you have lived in the area and then you can decide which area is best .we have chosen a flat in dachsen which is just over the Rhine and actually is in zurich canton (lower taxes too!) but is only a short drive or even shorter train journey into schaffhausen. there are quite a few expats here so this typeof area may be better for your wife and family especially if you are going to be at work all day.

i cannot help you about schooling as my kids are grown up but if i had children of the ages of yours then i would be sending them to the state school. they will settle quickely and learn german much quicker too, if will also help with their social life too.........hope this helps

Re: anyone near schaffhausen??

Hi there,
I also live in Schaffhausen and set up a drinking club with a jogging and walking problem, we meet 2nd and 4th Thursday each month, go for a wolk or a run and have a meal and a few drinks afterwards, this Thursday we are in Singen Germany for a look at the fortress and a meal in a Greek afterwards, details on our website

www.schaffhausen;h3.com

our group is mainly about socialising and having fun, the athletics is secondary
