New to Vaud and this Forum... But excited to be here!

Hello everyone,

My name is Dan and I am your normal Canadian guy who is excited to be here. My french girlfriend recently got a job here in Lausanne and I have been visiting for the last couple weeks with a few more weeks to go. Her and I both love the city and, after much conversation about our future, want to try and stay here a while. So I thought I would take this opportunity to start to meet some new people and explore some new paths. Feel free to say hi!

Looking forward to converse more!

Cheers

Hey Dan. Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Switzerland.

There's a few other Maple Leaf types around that'll be able to understand your funny accent and discuss your silly sports

Glad to hear it! Especially with our main silly sport just firing up. AKA the NHL season has just started.

Thanks for the quick response!

Welcome to the forum and to Switzerland. You'll find it difficult to stay long term though I'm afraid. Non-EU nationals are last in the jobs queue and need to be both highly qualified and have several years' experience to back it up to stand a chance.

If you can't find a job here then the only other possibility, unless you marry your girlfriend, would be for her to apply for a concubine permit for you. The Swiss don't really recognise unmarried couples, but that permit would allow you to live here though whether you could work or not I don't know. She would also have to agree to be financially responsible for you for 5 years.

Here's canton Vaud's info on it:
