New in Locarno

Hi there....
I recently moved to Locarno to learn italian...I`m Swiss (from Zurich, female, 20 years old), but finding it quite hard to get to know someone here.
Any tips or tricks? is there anyone around who`d like to have a chat or go out for a drink?
Cheers
Ashling

Although we were only there on a visit, Il Guardiano del Farro, a newly open vegetarian arts café, seemed to be super inclusive and welcoming. We felt like locals when eating there, even though we don't speak Italian.

If I lived in Locarno, i'm sure I would be making friends there very quickly. People talk to you quite readily and will try in another language if you're struggling.
One street down from there, there was also a "book club café" that also seemed very inviting and welcoming, but I forgot its name. It's only 5 minutes up from the Piazza Grande.

Hi and welcome!

I did exactly the opposite, moved from Ticino to Zh to learn German
So, what do you think about Ticino? Do you like Locarno?

If you want you can text me, I'm 25 and I go back more or less every week end in Ticino

Enjoy!

Re: New in Locarno

Do you have your own transport? If so there are some disco/clubs around Locarno such as Vanilla if you haven't already been.
Ascona also has some nice clubs and bars such as Beach Lounge near the Lido. I saw the ice rink is being erected so there's something to do.
If you have your own transport, there is the Opening of Carnevale tonight at Monte Carasso near Bellinzona, there should be some movement amongst the people, especially those in their early mid twenties.
As for meeting people do you have a hobby such as playing a sport? If so and if not it is always a good way to meet people.

Bellinzona is dead in regards to night life but does have a rock bar called Peter Pan. There is also a rugby club in Bellinzona, which has a female team if you are interested. The players both male and female are around your age so it could be an opportunity to meet some people. The club has a facebook page. Rugby Club Ticino. English speakers in sopra ceneri are few and far between, I believe Lugano has more of an international feel but can't say from experience. Hope this helps.
