New to Zurich \ Not New to Switzerland

Hello folks,

I'm practically a veteran on the EF site (although not a Forum legend yet). I've been looking at your crazy posts since 2007 and admiring the knowledge of many EFers like Shorrick, PaddyG, Swisspea, and others.

After 5 years in Geneva and 9 years in Vaud, I'm finally moving to Zurich and wanted to do a formal introduction.

Me, my wife and 2 kids (8yrs and 4 yrs) will be moving to Zurich in the summer 2016. Currently I'm a Wochenaufenthalter and getting to know Zurich and the language (Grüezi!)

I'm going to start apartment\house hunting soon and I've been combing through all the posts to find the kreis' with good schools, low rent and great amenities within short commute of Zurich center (might as well hope for peace in the middle east while we're at it)

Although it is great to go through the posts, any advice is definitely welcome. I'm looking for places mostly in Kreis 3, Kreis 2, Adliswil, .... all the way down to Thalwil - to have the best connectivity with my new workplace.

Here's to this wonderful group and Zürich

Cheers,
Nileblitz

Hi Nileblitz

Good luck with your move, I can highly recommend Leimbach (which is Kreis 2) as an area to live. Still in Zurich but there is lots of open space and green! 12 mins to HB on the S4. Sadly Leimbach still falls in the Zurich tax band, but Adliswil and Thalwil are outside of that.

We have friends who live in Adliswil with their children and it's also a very nice place to live. Again, very green. Schools don't seem too bad by all accounts, there are both local and an international school in Adliswil. Also not far from Zurich centre.

Good luck with the move. :-)

Thank you all.

Thanks Emma. I was looking at Kreis 2 too but never thought about Leimbach. I'll keep that in mind. Getting a good apartment seems to be a game of chance though. Looking forward to it

Re: New to Zurich \ Not New to Switzerland

Hi there and welcome to Zurich, unfortunately we are just moving out of Enge (Kreis 2) ourselves. If you are still looking for an apartment, though, I can very much recommend the area. We found lots of joy in walking along the lake and quick access to everything.

PS: I believe our apartment might still available, but I would have to check with the building management.
PPS: We are also letting go of our furniture in case you need anything, let me know

Hi, I just saw your message. Enge sounds perfect for us. Is you apartment still available? Not sure if we can move in already though as we want the kids to finish their school year in Lausanne.

Do you have a link to the furniture list\photos?

Welcome to zurichhope you settle well here.
I personally think kreis 5 behind prime tower is a nice new area to live, they got many new projects in recent years, so all apartments are new and nice, very near to the train and one stop to the city. I live there since two years, ️Fabulous!
