Re: Living in Stettbach

First of all the pedantic bit: There isn't actually a place called Stettbach. It's just the name of an S-Bahn station, named after the nearby stream. The area around the station is Dübendorf to one side and Schwamendingen to the other. Dübendorf is an independent municipality and Schamendingen is a neighbourhood of Zürich City (Kreis 12).

The Dübendorf side in that part is more offices and some retail stuff, whereas the Schwamendingen side is more residential. Obviously in terms of public transport connections its a good place to be as you have frequent trains to downtown Zürich but also to numerous destinations including Winterthur and the Zürcher Oberland. They recently extended the tram system from here to the airport as well, so you couldn't be more spoilt for fast and direct connections. This makes it pretty attractive. The down side is that its close to the airport and you get airplane noise. In the past the area generally had lower than average rents and this attracted what you might call some riff raff to the area, but this could vary pretty much on a micro level depending on which street you were. In recent times the area has been upgraded and gentrified quite a bit by the worst of the old buildings coming down and replaced by higher quality ones. I think you should be fine moving there these days.

Another plus is the proximity to the forest. You can easily walk through the forest to the zoo for example.
