Do not worry. At 28 you are still easily young enough. I was 38 before I finally moved from Australia. Moved to Austria at the time, to do a type of job completely different to what I did in Australia. It was the best thing I ever did, and now I am very happy in Switzerland.

Being scared and stressed is a very normal part of making a move like this. When you are settled in and look back on this time, you will realise that the fear and stress is part of what makes this a very exciting time in your life, what motivates you to succeed in your adventure and makes you feel that you are alive.

Best of luck with your move.

It feels so good to hear someone had been through there say this, cool

Thanks, I hope some day I would say the same: Move to switzerland is the best thing I have ever done to myself

You started to learn it when you moved in Switzerland or you have been learning it all the time?

I am still working for ALSTOM in Sweden now, and my contract says that my start date will be on 4th of Aug. (Monday), so I guess I will be in Switzerland 3 days ahead of my first working day.

I spent six months learning German before I went to Austria. Both here in Switzerland and when I was in Austria all my work is in English and my friends and Colleagues all speak English (and like to practice it). So my German is still really, really embarrassingly bad.

1. But, every month I am surprised at how much better it is, and the things I manage to achieve in English.

2. I survive fine here. Sometimes it is very difficult. But the better my German gets the easier it is. But it does not make things impossible (even if it feels like it occasionally).

3. http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ is your friend. The translations are very rough, but give you the general idea. If you are still unsure, get a German speaking person to help. Don't use Babelfish too much help you learn German or English. The translations can be very bad most of the time. But close enough to understand.

Here in Sweden, we have some international collegues as well, but in the coffee information, mostly we are speaking Swedish, so a lot of people who doesn't speak Swedish here felt quite difficulty even the job can be done perfectly in English, they said, something is missing, they couldn't get involved in cultures and inside. I am just worrying about this actually.

But thank you very much for your information, wish you all the best and luck

I will work in Baden for ALSTOM.

Because I speak swedish, and people say there are 70% words of Swedish are from German, German speaking people could make it in 6 months here in Sweden speaking fluent Swedish, so i thought I could get it a bit easier since I have Swedish basis

Goodluck with the move, and a good start with your new job, and also learning German.
