As I read others, felt that I talked too less.

Ok, I am 28 years old, and i am moving to Baden, Switzerland in July because the work issue. I am stressed because this moving, I don't know what is up there in Baden waiting for me, I don't speak German, either french or italian, so I am not so sure if I can surivive there.

I want to learn german, to understand the culture, but I don't know how difficulty it will be, or where can I learn?

I am going to work with ALSTOM Power in Baden as the project engineer, and I have my best friend who is living in Switzerland, and he is swiss, we have been thought the Master Degree together in Sweden. I like Switzerland, and I am soon going to work and live there.

I want to know the swiss people, culture and speciality, and I want to learn the language as well.

I am so looking forward to it, and the same time I am scared and stressed, it is too risky for an not-so-young-woman to re-start everything again!!!!

Indeed I wish you luck. I'm pretty sure you will survive but, as you realise, it is not all simple. There are lots of new things to get used to. However, you're young and hopefully resilient and you have certainly found a good place to come for answers to specific questions. There are quite a few of Swedish members and other ex-pats working in similar fields, who will understand your needs better than I do. There are many English speakers around Baden (and maybe a few Swedish speakers too) so you should be able to find people who understand your problems.

I may need to stay in Switzerland about 5 years, between it may involve in some other places' short term relocation, like in China, or Sweden.

I would not call 28 years old "not-so-young"...

Alstom is a very international place to work, so you won't be alone in working away from home. I believe there are quite a few Swedish people working there.

I wouldn't worry about your initial lack of German, but would recommend that you take German lessons; perhaps Alstom will help you here. Even if you don't really need German for work, you will find it useful for dealing with everyday life and it's a great help with social life too.

Welcome to the forum.

In 2007 Alstom Switzerland filled 610 new jobs, many in the Baden area. In the same year, ABB filled 481, mostly in the Baden area. Many of these jobs were filled with people who do not speak German at all, or German is possibly not their mother tongue. I have helped many newcomers with their housing search and with settling in. Baden is a very international community as you will soon find out. People in the area are friendly and helpful. You will survive, honest. The great thing is that you already know someone here.

Alstom has a language centre in Baden so perhaps they will offer you German lessons there. If not, there are several language schools where you can take a course.

So try not to be too stressed and do use the search option on this forum where you will find the answers to many of the questions that are probably on your mind. There are many of us living in the Baden/Brugg and surrounding areas...but we don't seem to meet up for drinks the way the Zurich group does ...unless I missed one of these outings.

Can I just ask if all the non-swiss very enjoy of staying in Switzerland?

Do not worry. At 28 you are still easily young enough. I was 38 before I finally moved from Australia. Moved to Austria at the time, to do a type of job completely different to what I did in Australia. It was the best thing I ever did, and now I am very happy in Switzerland.

Being scared and stressed is a very normal part of making a move like this. When you are settled in and look back on this time, you will realise that the fear and stress is part of what makes this a very exciting time in your life, what motivates you to succeed in your adventure and makes you feel that you are alive.
