new in Bern

Hi everybody!

I am about to move to Bern in three days. My husband has a job in Neuchatel and I will be teaching in Luzern so we decided to live somewhat in the middle. I feel quiet overwhelmed and intimidated because I am not sure what to expect. I haven't even seen the flat. However, the two of us are big sport and outdoor fans and I know that Switzerland will just be perfect for that
We also are quiet passionate about playing board games. Now we just need to find the right people to do this with!

If somebody has some good tips for upcoming events in Bern or/and things that we shouldn't miss, I would be glad hearing about it!

Cheers,
Anke

Re: new in Bern

Welcome to the Forum.
I can well imagine you feel a bit apprehensive - changes are always a bit 'knee-shaking'. The language won't be quite such a problem as it is for folk who don't speak German at all though and you have your husband here too. Nevertheless there are lot of differences and I hope you get things sorted and and that you both settle in quickly.
As you say, there are plenty of outdoor activities here which you will certainly enjoy.
Don't know too much about events in Bern - have you looked up Activites in the Forum or tried Bern's Homepage in the Internet? Plenty going on even when the football is over! Many Swiss homepages are simply the name of the town or city .ch
Good luck - with the flat too!

Re: new in Bern

HI, welcome to Bern! I hope you settle in alright!

My partner and I live in Bern too, and we are also into board games, what do you like to play? We could get together sometime when you are settled in?
There are a lot of outdoorsy activities in and around Bern, it just depends on what you like to do, we are both into biking (him, mountain, me cross country) and there are some really nice hiking trails around too.

I hope the flat hunting is going well, and if you would like to meet up for a coffee or so,drop me a line. I've lived in the city now for 14 years and speak the speak, so if you need help, just let me know...

greetings, Starbug
