Greetings from an old Newbie

Hi there.

Just stumbled upon this website and after reading the posts for a few days, decided to become a member.

I moved to CH nearly ten years ago after marrying a Swiss girl. We parted in 2001 and I now live in Kanton Solothurn with our two sons (single father).

I work as a photographer in Basel specialising in advertising, brochures and portraits and am also responsible for our companys' tri-lingual website which is funny because my French is non existent and my German is laughable.

I actually found this site after looking at Swiss visa requirements on another site and following the link back here. I've since found it to be very interesting and informative. For instance I wasn't aware that people could pay their tax at source (something I'd love to do), because since first coming here I've always paid it at the end of the year.

Although being here ten years, I still find it difficult to understand legal, tax and other such mundane (although essential) matters as my ex usually sorted that stuff out for me . I'm sure that I pay too much car insurance, medicla insurance etc and this is where I'm hoping the Englishforum will in the future, be able to help me find answers.

Anyway, sorry for drifting off topic. I just wanted to introduce myself and having done that, will go and explore further.

Tom

Please feel welcome ! We have a great deal of collective experience of the mundane yet essential, in fact it stretches well into the banal and the trivial with just a pinch of the esoteric.

Indeed. Seriousness is the only refuge of the shallow.
