Hello everyone,
Thought it was high time I introduced myself and hopefully meet some lovely new people that a) I don't work with and b) haven't the faintest interest in banking.
A brief bit about myself.
I've been living in Zurich for 6 months; 2 in Oerlikon and 4 in Adliswil. The latter of which is delightful. The former- not so much; depending on which street you live on.
Any who, I'm 26, originally from Harrow, North London and so far I am thoroughly enjoying not taking the tube to work everyday. I'm really interested in art and music and would love to hear more about where I can go to see live music (Indie, Alternative, a touch of ska punk, funk or folk) So if anyone knows of anywhere it would be great to hear about it.
Thank you very much
cbee
p.s. apologies for any bad spelling and typing. Without spell check this posting lark is a minefield for me.

Gruetzi zusammen! (hello everyone)
And I thought the entire time I have been living in CH, that there were no english speaking groups (other than the american women's club, which is a bit out of my league), until i found this one, online here and it is a nice find.
I am 27 years old, unemployed, student living in Basel. I feel a bit semi-retired at the moment, because of the summer break which has been a nice bubble to live in, but unfortunately it will burst in about two weeks time. Searching for a job has been an atrocious task , but then my situation is a bit complicated, as I am sure is not uncommon for most people. I aspire to graduate from school soon....i hope, but not sure how 'soon' that soon will be...
I have no hobbies, worth mentioning here, but I do have a knack for coming across treasures in other people's refuse. I would have to say, I have never known any other peoples, than the Swiss people to place so many goodies on the street corner with a sign advertising their rejects as 'GRATIS' in other parts of the world one has to scourage for such finds, and seldom are these unwanted items as clean and neatly placed, and up for grabs as here in CH. Infact, I would encourage everyone to pause the next time they pass a sign advertising 'FREE' things. I found a bowl of money the othe day! Can you imagine! MONEY! Yes, FREE MONEY! Ofcourse it was foreign money, and money which is no longer manufactured (Deutsch Mark, Italian Lire, French Franc etc etc...) But then, isnt money afterall, money? Life must indeed be very good if one can afford to 'throw out' old money. And ofcourse I have come across stranger things that I can not mention here, for I can not identify what they are ...yet.
Grussli, J.

Could you possibly return them to me, please? You'll need some waterproof packaging, and you might want to give them a quick blast in the microwave before unleashing them into the custody of the innocent fellows at the Post Office, but they should be fine by themselves.
I do hope they haven't given you any trouble: For example, are you missing any house pets, fingers or cleaning materials? If so, I would be more than willing to replace on a new-for-old policy, although you would have to wait a few weeks for the fingers, since they take a while to grow.
Actually, come to think of it, you can keep the larger of the two, if you like. Simply give it a handful of Baby-Bio every couple of months, make sure it is always provided with shredded paper, and keep it away from electrical power supplies, running water and small children.
The other one, however, I'd like returned. I'd rather not have to explain why, but I really would lock your bedroom door tonight, and get it wrapped and posted first thing in the morning.
I'm looking forward to seeing my little friend again! Thanks for letting me know about it!

I trust and hope you are not Dougal's Breakfast itself, but in any event, please tell me why I should return the larger of the to you? And how do I know it is yours? You see, where I come from, thats right, I am by definition, a finder and hence a keeper. You on the other hand, i can not speak for, but it did say 'FREE' on the sign. One can't very well rid oneself of, or in more polite terms give them away and then want then back! It just doesn't work that way...where I come from, however this is Switzerland and an entirely different place from all others if you will agree. So unless you have insurance....and you really should, because this is Switzerland.
Frankly, the three of us, that is including your little friend whom is not so little at the moment, are doing just fine and mind you, I could never part with the larger of the two of your not-so-little friends...obviously, because there is more of it (it having becoming officially non-little) to go around.
YES, we will lock our bedroom door at night so that nothing can get to us.
Until retirement, j.

For your own safety you do not want to keep anything that belongs to Mr. Dougal, large or small. The last unsuspecting person to have made the fatal mistake of adopting one of his stray pets was buried as recently as last week, after a long and gruesome search to gather all the pieces of her mutilated body scattered all over the apartment. You have been warned.

Last.fm is also pretty handy if you set your location as Zurich - there's a fair few decent things coming up |

I'm not at all certain that we should be taking Dougal's Breakfast seriously anymore, perhaps he is trying to give us a hint by changing his avatar to Comical Ali?
Victory is in sight etc....

Well, huff, i believe you a wee bit envious, and i gather you are one of the many pet-less folks out there and whtat is more, isyour attempts to lure me into giving up these adorable chubby creatures is not particulary effective. you have been warned. Infact, I will have you know that I had the chubbier of the two, taken to a horn polisher this morning. Its horns were in rather tattered shape and a bit of black shoe polish did the trick.oh dear, i believe I hear a-grunting....a sign surely that its horns need tending too.

Adorable chubby creatures do not necessarily remain so. Some naive owners have learned this at a dear cost. | | This user would like to thank Rustygraben for this useful post: | |

If you must insist on keeping them both, there is little that I can do, but I must insist that you observe the following precautions: - Please beware of their tentacles when closing doors. They are sensitive little souls, and can get terribly upset when they lose bits of their appendages. And you really don't want to upset them if you can help it.
- In about a month's time the larger one will start shedding its leaves. Please do not use them in salad. They taste nice (somewhat reminiscent of fennel), but the hallucinatory properties may be a little disturbing to other residents in your building, and the explosive diarhoea may be a little disturbing to you.
- Please do not place either of them near small children, electrical sockets or running water. I may have mentioned this before. It's terribly, terribly important. I can't explain why, or the laboratory from which I borrowed their seeds might start asking questions...
- Do not feed them with fleischkase. It won't do anything nasty to them, but they might do something nasty to you.
- If they become too much to handle, simply drown them in a bucket. A bucket of battery acid. Or something stronger, if you can secure it.
Good luck, and have fun! They love catching frisbees, having their roots tickled and savaging door-to-door salesmen and preachers. You should get along just fine!
Cheers!

Hey cbee, looks like you got hijacked here... welcome to Zürich, and the English Forum!
If you check this before leaving work this afternoon, get along to the Talacker Bar from 7:30 or so, to meet up with a few people from this forum... I should be there this week, but doubt I will still be the 'newest' person there... and I have nothing to do with banking, other than getting my pay put in so I can access it...

Right Crikey, had to read through quite a lot there.
Thank you everyone for the responses and the info and of course for the welcome. It's nice to know I'm not the only one in search of a bit of decent music. If I hear of anything I'll post.
Being an overworked, underpaid admin lacky I didn't get a chance to check this forum at work- in fact I'm not certain that I can. hmm, I shall investigate. So I'm sorry I couldn't come and meet you Araqyl. I'll keep a closer eye. As for you other cheeky post jumpers in, well. Quite frankly I'm very disappointed in you all. Although I am intrigued and will certainly be on the look out for free stuff- good tip |

One reason they offer stuff for free is the cost of disposing of it ... so often you're doing somebody a favour by taking their junk away. Especially money, I don't know anyone who wants that junk!
Oh, and I think Talacker tonight was good ... met a few new people, a couple of people I met last time, and had some drinkable beer... successful night!

I just moved here and have recently discovered that there is some live folk going on at the community centre near Bucheggplatz. There's allsorts, Italian, Irish, Balkan Gypsy folk. Looks interesting. Website is www.folkclubzuri.ch.

That's cool. Thanks heaps Aimee. I'll have to go and have a badger about. I'll have a look at what's on. I heard that Pennywise are here next week. Not too clear on details but if you fancy it I could get some tickets.

Yeah, thanks for that one Aimee - have been looking for something like that place, sounds like something my good friends JigZag would love to be part of, as well... pity they're still on the other side of the world, but may get them over sometime or other... :/

Hi cbee - nice to meet you. I'm in Adliswil too and also from London (south). I agree Adliswil is a lovely place to live and I don't miss the commuting back home either! | Quote: | | | | | Hello everyone,

cool, so how long have you been living in Adliswil? Where abouts in South London are you from? I think heaps of Londoners arrive in Switzerland and instantly feel 5 years younger and a hundred times more chilled out
