Moving to Bern

Howdy all,

I've been a lurker here for a while now ... and now that I have officially received an offer I'm on my way to Bern in January. Figured it would be time to drop an introduction since it's actually going to happen (as long as the Swiss government approves) - it just seemed a bit premature to announce any time sooner.

Moving from Saint Paul, MN (USA) to Bern. Bringing my wife and son (2.5 years old).

Thus far the forum has been very helpful.

Thanks,

colin.

Re: Moving to Bern

to the EF, Colin!

You list "cycling" as your interest; there is a very active cycling community within EF (you arrived a bit late in the season!). If you have not yet done so, check out the excellent thread Cycling in Switzerland.

For a list of potential contacts see the responders to the thread EF Cyclists End-of-Season Social.

There is also a thread on Road Cycling Routes (assuming that you are a road cycler).

Right now, though, skis seem more appropriate than bicycles

Re: Moving to Bern

Hi,

Welcome to Switzerland, I grew up in your part of the world but a little South and west cycling around here is great, hard to beat anywhere in the world, in respect to scenery and roads. Off road is good as well but I haven't done much of that

We have a pretty active riding group in Zurich. Weekday rides may be difficult from Bern but there are occasional weekend activities. Check the Social calendar.

Have fun.

Re: Moving to Bern

re cycling, there are a few road clubs in Bern - GS Schaller and Bern RRC.

Drop me a message if you need any routes around the city.

Also might be interesting to see how many English speaking cyclists fancy a Sat / Sun morning once the snow goes.

Re: Moving to Bern

Hi!

The next social event in Bern is on the 15th of January at the Tram Depot! A good chance to meet other newbies, hope you can make it! Just sign up in Social Events! It would be really nice to see some more people participating for a change. It's only a drinks event, so even if you can only make it for an hour, it will be worth it!

Greetings

Starbug
