Possibly moving to Bern plz help!

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, I've been lurking for a while reading the posts to gather information on life in Switzerland since I have a chance to be transferred to Bern from Montevideo, Uruguay.

At the moment the thing that holds me back the most is that I am not sure how much I will get paid in case this opportunity materializes so I humbly request your assistance to get a better idea on how much should one earn to make a decent living there.

We are a family of 2 adults and two kids (5 and 3 yrs old).

Basically it would be very important to know how much can I expect to spend in Rent, groceries, health insurance, transportation, taxes, etc etc.

Private schools would be a concern at least until the girls can understand German

This way I would have the necessary knowledge to better understand if the salary I might be offered will be enough or not.

Finally, another important thing would be to learn the language so if everyone has personal experience as to the difficulty and time-frame involved please share.

Many thanks to you all in advance,

Christian

Hi, welcome to this forum and probably soon to this country. What a change from sunny Montevideo to Berne...! To let you have a rough idea how costs of living are plus to get some more info, I suggest to consult these websites:

http://www.swissworld.org/en/economy...ost_of_living/
http://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/portal/en/index.html
http://www.justlanded.com/english/Sw...e/Jobs/Working

I'm sure some friendly people will come up here soon and let you have insight into their well kept secrets All the best, though!

Thank you very much for your reply, some of those pages I had already visited and some I did now. They have quite a lot of interesting information yet I posted here anyway to see if I could get some personal experiences from you guys.

Again, thanks a lot!
