My name is Sally, and I grew up in a remote part of South Africa. We moved here from Nigeria, via Graubuenden, and have been here a few months. this time it's supposed to be for good, so we are already putting down roots as fast as we can! have been nomadic for so long that am starting to feel the effects. My husband works for a consultancy in electricity, based in Dattwill. We have a 4-year old daughter, Briony, and live in Ammerswil, just outside Lenzburg. I had been missing contacts with like-minded people (and speaking English!), until finding this forum. am feeling very homesick (home is still the farm in South Africa, even after 25 years of being away!). I guess we need to make some new friends, and then start to discover the joys of living in Switzerland. One of which i'm already making the most of - fabulous chocolate, cheap, and everywhere!

The name doesn't really describe the membership of the group as many live outside the Baden area and most are not expats. I assumed the role of owner and moderator of the group some months back and the title came with it. We share information about playgroups and coffee mornings...so you might find this to be an opportunity to make some new friends.

Yebo! Olden good days remind me about our lekker distant trips past Harrismith to Amphitheater Lodge and next day to Sentinel Peak, Mount aux Source. Then we would stop at Alpineheath Resort for supper... and we also had our Little Switzerland there

Just wanted to say that I have stepped down as owner and moderator. The group still exists, with a new moderator, though there is very little activity. Many of the members of that group are active here.

We came here just over a year ago and live on a farm just outside of Aubonne VD - you are most welcome to drop in if you are ever around this end of the country!
There are two FB groups that I know of - south african club switzerland and south africans living in switzerland.

Hi Sally, welcome to the Forum.
"Aangenam Kennis" does this mean a pleasure to meet you, or words to this affect? I find it so interesting that since learning German or Swiss German, I feel I can interpret or get a feel for certain languages in the written form.
Humor me. |
