Hi im from South Africa....

Hi, just introducing myself, relocated to Geneva, as my wife has been transferred to her company headquarters.....

I am getting by, with some basic words in French, but finding it difficult to meet people and make friends purely on the language barrier.

My current day job, is surfing the web and looking for job vacancies. I am looking for a job in the pharmaceutical sector as i have previous experience in this industry....

bye.. for now

Hi there

Welcome to the area from a fellow Saffer - CONGRATS on the move, there is quite larger Saffer community in Switzerland

My husband and I moved here 8 years ago from JHB and love it. Although we go back regularly, this is definately our home.

If we can help in any way to make your settling in smoother, don't hesitate to ask via PM or email.

Good Luck
Nats

Hey there Nats

Thanks a lot, i heard there are a lot of Saffers here, i was in Nyon yesterday and spotted a car with a RSA flag on the back bumper.

Reason being in Nyon, i met a Saffer on the aircraft last week flying to Athens, he suggested me to go to the Fisherman Pub in Rue de Rive, and network there.

We are also from Joburg in Rivonia, i have been here for the last 6 weeks, its is very different to RSA, and a pretty little country.

I will send u my email address.

Take care

Have been here for over 1.5 year and had lived in Douglasdale prior we moved here. Initially things might seem very different to SA's lifestyle but after a while you can get used to the new culture. Having said that SA will always be home and place to return to

That is so true, the first culture shock i had here, was the cost of things vs RSA, but i told myself "that i am going to stop converting from CHF to ZAR"

How long did it take you to adjust to the move and get settled here, do you speak any European languages.

It is all relative to salary earned. Like you say it doesn't help to convert. Once you start working the things will change on better. Trust me on that one. My wife was unemployed for quite a while but eventually the things worked out for her well. Most important is positive mindset.

For some people it takes longer than the others to settle. I have European background but lived in SA for very long and enough to forget about lifestyle and how things changed here in EU. In my case, I am still getting used to but my betterhalf loves it here now.

It helps to start learning one of the local languages (German for us living in Aargau) and French for you guys down south.

Try to search on the EF similar topics how others find it to settle down here, social events and about language courses in your location. Good luck with everything soon you will start liking it better and better I hope and... wait for skiing season (at least try it ones)... absolutely lekker! You'll love it
