New American in Switzerland

Hi Everyone,

My name is Steve and I have just recently accepted an offer with a company in Aargau working as an Engineer. I will be moving to Switzerland on April 17th. I am American and my wife is German. She will be joining me in Switzerland in July after the school year is finished (She is an elementary school teacher).

I have created a blog to discuss my experiences in moving to Switzerland as well as to help others who may be facing the same problems as us in moving to/living/working in Switzerland. If you would like to check out my blog, you can find it at:
http://livingandworkinginswitzerland.blogspot.com/

It is still a work in progress, but I will be updating it frequently.

Cheers,

Steve

Morning Steve, just read your blog it's great that things have gone so smoothly for you You lucked out on the apartment front too as the first of July is one of the main moving dates here, so as you said in your blog start looking as soon as you get here.
All the best Oldhand.

Hi Steve!

How did you find the job in Switzerland? I am looking to move to Berne or Zurich in the summer and I am trying to find a job before I arrive. I only speak English and am starting to learn some German. Do you have any suggesstions for me? I'm going to check out your blog a little later, too.

Nice to meet you!

Re: New American in Switzerland

Hello, Steve.

I'd worry about maybe having the chronology a little mixed up. I've experienced that things go better when the job is had and then the move is made. If you're going to move here--and you've no rabbit in your hat--then you might not find what you're perhaps imagining.

Are you sure that German's what you need? Premier languages vary depending on your profession or field of interest.

Good luck.

Re: New American in Switzerland

I really love chappies who are wishful thinkers. I really do.

I don't know if any of you lot watched the telly last month but apparently Aargau is one of the worst kanton for a foreigner to live in but ..... hey don't believe the horrors stories that are available on the internet.
