New Irish one

Hi,
I have been reading your forum for a while and only got around to registering now! I have been here 5 months and am living in Zurich. It's great to know there's English speaking people out there as my German is non-existent!

Hey,
I'm from Dundalk originally but went to college and worked in Dublin. What brings you here?

Re: New Irish one

Yahoo, more paddies... lets all plot to take over the country!!! We can make it country Switzerland...

Having been here over 2.5 years now, and been over and back constantly for the last 6 years, I had always wondered why there were no Irish in Zurich. Now it seems thanks to discovering this forum there are more and more coming out of the woodwork.

Dia Dhuit, agus failte go dti an forum.

Go raibh maith agat! I don't know about you but my Irish is nearly as bad as my German! Shocking isn't it? Yes good to know that there are more Irish out there. We were never known for conquering places but there's always a first....!

You can do what I do when I miss the ocean smell... boil 2 liters of water on the stove top and add as much salt as you can until you feel sea sick, breath deeply!!! you'll be sorry you did, but it kills the craving!!!! you can add some old socks to make up for the sea weed.

Dhia daoibh,
A Jackeen born scallionater here, am back in ZH a year and previously lived in BE and have a sis living in VD.
So is there an Irish Stammtisch being set up?
My fave Irish pub is actually in Zwinti as I used to live in Wallisellen, on the way to Bassersdorf.
As it's too late to celebr8 the cricket can anyone else think of an excuse for a pint?
Mise le meas

Hi there,

Just thought I would jump in here and let you know there are some more Irish people living in Switzerland.I have been here since 1990 and am living in Allschwil in Baselland.

To all the new members I would like to welcome you all and hope we can keep in touch.....after all taking over the country sounds like a great idea.

Matt.

Hello Matt,
Looking forward to hearing the Fingo lingo sometime, I hear it's dying out as a dialect.

Re: New Irish one

Hi Mick,
`Tis true the Finglas dialect is a dying breed(at least in Finglas anyway).A lot of people are moving out to greener pastures.I guess it has lots to do with the high cost of accommodation that Dublin commands.

I hope you are enjoying the fantastic weather(if only this place had a coastline...??????).

Anyway take care and talk to you soon.

Slàn go föill.

Matt.

Re: New Irish one

Hi Captain!
Yes it is amazing that the water here is transparent!! Where's the brown/green slimy look we're used to?!
Isn't the weather great? Though if it continues there'll be a burnt Irish one wandering around!! Spot the pale skin and farmer tan!

Re: New Irish one

Westlife are here? WHEN? WHERE?!!!!! I don't think so.

It's taken me a while to settle in and just concentrate on work and getting around. Haven't met any other Irish folk yet though haven't exactly hung out in the Irish pubs so maybe that's a reason!!

I can't think of any obvious tips as such but let me know if you have any problems and I'll see if I know anything!
