Moving to Basel, what to expect?

Hi there. I am considering a job offer in Basel. Great job with one of the big pharmas, but never lived outside the US, so naturally have a bunch of questions (will post to appropriate threads). Just returned from interview trip and really liked the city. If all works out with the job, will be moving with my partner of 18 years and my mom. Just wanted to say hi. Thx!

Basel is a great city at the intersection of France, Germany, and Switzerland. German is the lingua franca, but you also hear much
English and French.

You can probably move with your partner, but I don't think your
Mom will be allowed to move with you.

Re: Moving to Basel, what to expect?

Thanks for the reply. I've been hearing differently about my mom. She's a dependent and I can't take the position unless she comes too (the company knows that). Are you sure about the fact that she couldn't come? She doesn't (won't) work, so I just need a resident permit, I think. Good to know now, as I will need to turn down the job.

Re: Moving to Basel, what to expect?

I would check with the HR and Cantonal authorities. I am not 100%
sure, but really, really check before accepting the job.
