Moving to Zurich this month (from New York)

Hello Everyone,
I hope you are doing well. In a few weeks, I will be moving to Zurich from New York City. I am an American and will be working as an attorney at an international organization. Hopefully, my boyfriend will be joining me-we are dealing with the visas now.
I have previously lived abroad, but have never been to Zurich. Reading through this forum has been very helpful, though. Zurich sounds wonderful- I just wish I spoke German and Swiss German, at that. I have bought a (High German) book and will take classes when I arrive. In the meantime, I hope to find friends who want to practice German with me and/or speak English.
In terms of my interests: I enjoy hiking and camping and am excited about exploring the nature there. I am involved with human rights & advocacy groups in the States and hope to continue with that. I am also interested in creative writing and the arts and hope to discover some writing workshops, galleries, and dance and theater performances in the area. I am also curious about this media hyped “west Zurich cultural explosion.” It sounds a bit dubious, but I do enjoy checking out clubs and live music venues.
Thank you for this wonderful forum. I hope to hear from some of you soon!
All the Best,
Thalia

Hiya Thalia, i'm also looking forward to your arrival. I find that people with an open mind have a lot of fun and great experiences in Switzerland.

we'll be looking forwards to you resolving all of our legal issues, Thalia

the "west Zurich cultural explosion" must refer to the area around technopark/puls5. Everything's still standing so it was probably a very Swiss "explosion"

Thalia? Are you still in New York or have you moved already? I'm moving from New York in the first week if July... If you're still in NYC let me know... maybe we can meet up already so at least we know someone when we finally move!

Hallo Thalia !
You did find the right forum here, I think
I'm also relative new to Zürich and looking for a bunch of people to go to the cinema together (to watch movies in English) and have a talk with
(German grammar is not as easy as English, I guess; and Swiss German is quite different from the High German you might learn in the schools )

As I'm looking for a German course as well I've been collecting info about this so should you need some tip let me know.

Have a nice day

G.Carlo
