Poland-Germany-Switzerland

Hello,

my name is Kamila and I'm 20 yrs old girl from Poland. I have finished my school in Germany this year and have started to work as an au pair for some nice family in Bellevue (Geneve). Next year I'd like to start study law at the UNIGE. I don't speak French (yet), but I try to do my best about it. I speak fluently Polish, German, English (with some mistakes). I am really active person who has got a very rich CV (have done a lot of local, social, political and volunteery work in Poland as in Germany as well). I just have 2 dreams -to learn French and to earn enough money for my studies (have to find some part-time job, flat, actually is not so easy to start ). I love music, art, people.

so that's my introduction

greetings for everyone.

Kamila.

Re: Pl-ge-ch

Hello and welcome to EF !
Hope you enjoy it here

I think your ambition to go to law school in Geneva is a very good one !
Nevertheless I encourage you to inquire about language exams because they may require a rather high level of French to be able to attend faculties like Law.

Otherwise there is a private university just within walking distance of where you are called Webster University and it's all in English.

Good luck !!

Re: Pl-ge-ch

Hello Sky,

tomorrow I'm going to the UNIGE for some informations about it I'm afraid about this exams, but I don't know if they really check it (have read on german version of their website that I don't need to pass any exam...but I don't believe in that)...

yes I know Webster, is like 2 min away from "my home", but I wouldn't have enough money to go to private one =/

if not, I'm going to do Bechelor in Linguistic and I think after that I'd be ready to study in French...I hope so!

Re: Pl-ge-ch

Yes, they do check. The level required is the equivalent of a Baccalauréat or a Maturité.
I think at Webster you can take just one course at a time, while at UNIGE it will be full-time.

But keep your hopes up, there are many possibilities of acquiring an excellent education, and you are already fluent in 3 languages, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Re: Pl-ge-ch

Knowing German, it may be simpler to study law at ZH, BE, BS or SG.

Re: Pl-ge-ch

yes I know, but I love Geneva...;-) there is another possibility- I can go to study to Berlin and come back here for a Master studies...will see

I'm afraid of swiss-german, even if the studies are taught in Hochdeutsch.

Re: Pl-ge-ch

Welcome to the forum.

As the others have already indicated: Your plan is ambitious, but there is nothing wrong with being ambitious, is it?

A friend of mine made an au pair year in Geneva to learn French after high school (without any knowledge of the language before), loved the city and successfully managed her studies at Unige afterwards (I think in politics, but I am not too sure). Make sure to take lessons as fast and intensive as possible.

Success!

Re: Pl-ge-ch

I hope so but I'm kind of realistic person ( does it exist in english? ;P). Knowledge of French is not the biggest problem but it doesn't matter.

thanks for your support
