I will be moving to Switzerland from USA to be with my girlfriend. I am from Nigeria originally but have lived in Canada for few years before moving to US. Hoping that Switzerland will treat me nice. Merry Christmas.

Tanks for the welcome The profile is located in the forum database I think. CH is is Switzerland though. My girlfriend is in Zurich and I am in USA.

I believe our knowledgable MathNut does indeed know what CH means, but if you are in the USA, sad as it may be for you at the moment to be away from your GF, your location is surely USA (or you could give us the US state to make it more interesting to other US citizens living here).

Interesting that you should post today. I live in a tiny village in the Kanton of Schwyz. Most of the locals have never spoken to a black person and have only seen the ones hanging around the train stations or the few refugees the town had to house for a short time. Suffice to say, their image of blacks is rather negative.

Our local religion teacher came to visit us today and my daughter told him of her frustrations with her fellow students (secondary school) and their negative stereotyping of blacks. My brother-in-law is wonderfully black and as are my nieces and nephews, so my daughter has another view of non-whites than the locals.

The religion teacher is planning on inviting someone to class from Nigeria so the students can actually meet and talk to a coloured person.

I'm proud of my daughter and hope she can make a difference in our village. And I'm ashamed of all the stereotyping going on in our village.

I hope your experiences in Switzerland will all be positive, but if not, please think back to this post and remember that people are trying to shake up some of these ignorant Swiss.

it is quite different in terms of socializing and culture, it took me a bit of getting used to but it is surely an easier adjustment when you have the person you care about beside you!

Sorry, see.look - my sentence didn't really mean what I meant it to mean. When you're a long way from 'home' it's just nice to see that there are others from the same region.

You'll often see Newbies getting a lot of extra warm welcomes if others from the same area recognise the familiar location or read it in the Intro. If the Newbie is not already here, the 'old hands' often give tips about what they are probably going to miss when they arrive and what they should make a point of bringing with them when they come. There are a load of helpful people on here.
