Ciao!

Hello all,

I've moved recently with my wife to Lugano in the lovely Ticino canton (fall '09); but have been a reader of this forum since January '09 when I started thinking about making a move to Switzerland. I've profited greatly from the information that this community so readily shares and have enjoyed the "colorful" commentary, inevitable dustups, and drive-by ego-deflations that have ensued as well. In other words, I feel at home already.

I won't reveal much about my work or personal details so that others who may know me in Lugano won't (immediately anyway) recognize me.

My wife (who is also my best and most favorite friend in all the world) and I have been slowly improving our nascent italian (we have been frequent travellers to Italy over the years), even though we find the Ticino dialect impenetrable. We very much enjoy the people and lifestyle here -- especially the blue skies and mild climate. This afternoon we sat on our sunny balcony in robes for two hours enjoying the view of the palm tree ringed lake and the snowcapped mountains in the distance. What a country!! (The wine helped too, of course.)

I have much to be grateful for; but I don't know why bad things happen to anyone much less good people; I have little knowledge of swiss-germanic neighbor customs; and have no idea where to find most British or American specialty food items. Barring these deficiencies I hope I might be able to make a contribution of some value from time to time, especially adding my voice to those of the relatively few other Tincino-based forum members who post here.

Thanks to all for this wonderful community. Hope to see you on the funway...

Doc

Re: Ciao!

It was too nice to sit inside, so the wife and I took a brisk motorcycle ride down Morcote way just to get out of the house. :-) Post more, lurk less! ;-)

Re: Ciao!

Hi there. Welcome to the forum!

Beautiful place you chose to move to.

If you face a certain way at your house, can you see the hydro dam that James bond bungy jumped off?

Re: Ciao!

Sorry about the delay -- I was relying on my getting an email notification when this thread had replies; but it didn't work. So, just browsing now and found your msgs.

Lorenza, yes, I would like very much to know about a Lugano EF event. Thanks!

Rangatiranui, I don't know that damn. But I don't believe I see any damns from my vantage point even with binocular glasses. Lots of other spectacular sights however and lots of pinching myself to check whether I'm dreaming!

Welcome to the forum, a place for nice and weird people, too

That damn must be the one in Valle Verzasca (just above Tenero and Gordola) which of course you can't even see with binoculars. I suggest to go and see, it's really spectacular for bungy jumping!

Re: Ciao!

Ah...yes, I know about the area. Cannot see it from my windows to be sure. Of course, I meant "dam" not "damn" -- too early in my EF career to reveal my vulgar side
