Re: red diesel?????

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The heating oil here, what is called mazout in French (no idea of the German) is essentially diesel and like in many parts of the world is dyed red and it also has a chemical marker added.

I have heard that it is allowed for use in farm vehicles, but I don't know if it's specifically legal or if the authorities are simply kindhearted toward farmers. It is certainly illegal to use in vehicles otherwise.

Re: red diesel?????

I'm sure there must be agricultural diesel but a) don't know how you'd get it b) would not tell you.

Re: red diesel?????

Migrol supply many different fuels and maybe have the exact product you are looking for - I found this contact page on their website:

http://www.migrol.ch/de/desktopdefau.../324_read-419/

(red diesel is just a dyed diesel that has a lower tax on it, but fuel taxes here are different than the UK)

Re: red diesel?????

I can't help with a source, but some understanding of what red diesel is might help with responses...

It looks like the original poster is running some machinery on-site (doing demolition work, it looks like). In the UK, you can purchase fuel at a reduced tax-rate for vehicles / machinery which is not used on public roads (eg, tractors, farm equipment, construction equipment). The fuel is exactly the same as normal diesel, but it has a red dye in it -- this enables the police to ensure that it is not being used in vehicles for which it isn't intended. If you get caught with red diesel in your car, you're in for a pretty hefty fine.

You might also try asking for "green" diesel -- at least in Italy, that's what colour it's dyed...

It's not a silly question, so responses of "just fill up with normal diesel" aren't really helpful...

Try phoning the customer care lines of Migrol, Shell etc and ask if they sell it and if so where.

There must be plenty of sales points in rural areas seing farmers use it.

Also, I believe that red diesel is identical to heating oil (Heizoel) so maybe ask your local heating oil supplier. But please do ask whether it really is the same as I'm not 100% sure.
